It's not a HIPAA violation to inform the public that an individual is being treated at a clinic or hospital. This happens all the time in the news. It's also OK to give a general status of the patient, e.g. stable condition, critical condition, etc. It is a violation to divulge specific info on the patient, e.g. operation performed, medical history, etc. Stating that they will be able to practice in the fall is not a HIPAA violation. This info is also given out all the time on athletes.

sorry, bro. here's a HIPAA summary that shows you're wrong. all personal information, including an acknowledgement of care by the care provider, is covered by HIPAA.
