It really doesn't matter until you need them. On the Twin Vee I had 2 on each side with 3 bilge pumps on each side. 1 assisted the scuppers, 1 drained rear hold, the other was for backup. I like the flapper types, gets much more flow thru them and don't get fouled up with trash as easy as the ball type. Sunflower seeds will mess them up in heartbeat.

okay I used to have the ping-pong ball one, is great except that trash like line paper, and the worse menhadden or cigar minnow pieces ges in that area with the ball all the time and are a bitch to get out.
