It suppresses the free market. If a team believes LeBron James is worth 50 million a year, why shouldn't they be allowed to pay it? The ownership cartells have conspired to protect each other from themselves and in the process artificially suppress wages.

ETA: And don't give me this parity nonsense, that's propaganda.

Because Lebron, Kobe, Durant, Wade, etc. all on the same team would be boring as frick. Nobody would even watch the NBA because you'd already know in September who was gonna win the title.

Free markets should exist in everything but sports.

Some teams have a larger following due to population. New York teams would just be unfair.

Teams like the Saints would never have a shot.

So your answer to making sports more "American", by ridding itself of a salary cap and instilling a free market system AND keeping parity, is to implement a socialist very un-American revenue sharing program?

Bc fans express an almost ownership like interests in their teams.

Any ideals they have about free markets, capitalism, etc etc goes out the window if it means hurting their team.

only within the league, nothing is stopping anyone from starting a competing league that could pay players whatever they want.

because they are not stand alone businesses and they have agreed to certain rules with their business partners and collectively bargained it with the players.

I'm with you, it's uncapitalistic.

But, I think it's sick they make that much money.
