Let's see if I have the facts correct...

1. Asst coach asks university if he can make an paid appearance at some basketball camp somewhere

2. School says no, but the coach goes anyway

3. He was not fired on the spot, but when his contract ran out, it was not renewed.

4. Asst coach, who made approximately $70,000 a year, demanded a one time payment of something like 11 X's his yearly pay, or else he would release damaging information about the head coach to the public.

Asst coach is a deuchebag and I hate that two people are now fired because this dude was disgruntled.

Or......

Asst coach went to AD with tape saying Rice was out of control.

AD cant fire Rice because they are in the middle of B10 talks and negative pub about why could damage chances of getting in.

In order to shut up asst, he is then let go but because NJ isnt a fire at will state, they decide to use the bsketball camp situation as the "reason" why his contract just happens to not get renewed.

Asst coaches lawyers try to settle out of court for wrongful termination, rutgers tries to call their bluff, then someone leakes tapes to espn.

Moral of story:
Dont call someones bluff when you dont have the trump card.
