If you honestly think ESPN just found out about it Monday night then ran a story Tuesday, you should ban yourself right now
So it has or has not been reported somewhere how long ESPN had that video?
I don't think they just got it Monday but you are saying they sat on it till the final 4 for max effect.
How long they had the video would greatly influence what I thought about espn in this discussion. A week or two to do a story seems reasonable. 2-3 months not so much.
Is there a report on how long espn had the video?

I was changing channels yesterday and passed by Rick Pitino discussing it. I kept the channel flipping, so I don't know exactly what he said about it, but if Rick Pitino said anything negative towards the Rutger's coach it is beyond laughable.
Have an affair on a dirty restaurant floor, then pay for an abortion after the woman becomes pregnant.... not fire-able.
Don't play stupid. A coach banging a sidepiece is less fireable than a coach throwing balls at and kicking players. That goes for any coach.

What Rice did was worse, also Knight didn't suck as a coach so I'm sure that ESPN employee factored that it.
Holy shite. So throwing balls at kids and calling them names (which im sure knight NEVER did) is worse than choking a kid? Gtfo.

Its amazing that people with one opinion think theirs are the only ones that matter or can be shared.
Whether you feel there is an "agenda" or not the issue remains.
Why hate on investigative journalism? If they had information on a issue isnt it their job to bring it to the public and let the chips fall where they may? Coach was in the wrong wheter its ESPN or CNN. Period.
AD may have been dealt with more severely because of his cavalier attitude when this all came out. Had he fired him on day 1 which would have been the appropriate call he is in the clear.
Had the Pres looked into matter rather than signing off on suspension without question he also would be in the clear.

One time offense for Knight. If Rice's footage came from just one practice he'd be in a much better place today.

But the point is that Rick Pitino should not be on tv lecturing any coach about what is ethical and what isn't.

You keep hanging your hat on this game of comparison shopping.
Just bc 1 coach at a different school did or didn't get fired for a totally different set of circumstances, that has no bearing on the situation at hand.
Hey Woody Hayes punched a player, that justifies firing Rice.

I'm sorry that you are 14 years old and have no idea about the kind of coach that Bobby Knight was.
I heard on radio this week that in practice one day Bobby Knight was showing somebody a low post move against a defender and the player didn't want Knight to score so he fouled him. They said that Bobby Knight, from point blank range hit the player in the face with the ball and said, "don't ever foul me again."
Anyone that thinks that Bobby Knight wasn't worse on the players than the Rutgers coach is out of their mind.

Irrelevant which act is "worse." What Rice did was bullshite and he deserved to be fired. Also, the board of trustees releasing a statement that they were keeping the AD because he got them into the Big 10 despite his terrible misstep in not firing Rice when he saw those tapes absolutely sealed the AD's fate. As soon as the BOT did that, the AD was done. That is the worst thing the BOT could have done.

How many times do we have Knight on tape hitting a player? How many times do we have Rice?
That is what I mean by one time offense. Of course Knight wouldn't have been able to do the stuff he did now but he's not coaching anymore so that's not relevant.

It's relevant because he is a current employee at ESPN, the leaders of the lynch mob out to bring down the entire Rutgers administration.

I take it you have no idea what those two terms even mean then...
"investigative journalism" does not include a butthurt former employee who comes to rat out his former school
All they had to do was press play on the DVD and let their "reporters" do the rest

so it only happens if its on tape?
this is why this whole situation is so fricked up.
i can understand the dismissal of rice, letting pernetti go really bothers me. as someone with 1st hand knowledge of what goes on there, he cared about the athletes at rutgers big time.

What do you know? You're just a Rutgers fan/alumni/booster. The national media knows what is best for your University.
The coach used a homophobic slur, man. Fire everybody!!!

I just don't understand all the "rage" across the nation about this unknown basketball coach from Rutgers. Where was all this rage when someone died at Notre Dame (or the girl committed suicide)?
If your life's mission is to re-open the ND incident then by all means start another thread. However, you are really sounding like a close-minded bitch on this one.

Investigative Journalism is far from what ESPN does. They have ventured into the realm of sensationalism. This was first reported in November when Rice was suspended and fined and Pernitti was open about it. However ESPN was in the middle of their CFB season and did not have time for it.
But once the nation had its eyes on the tourney specifically after the Ware injury what a great time to really open up a story.

Ive been a fan my whole life, literally. Ive grown accustom to the losing, but this whole shame media witch hunt really hurts. The wrong man is taking the fall for this and if everything involved with rutgers wasnt aleady completely screwed up with pernetti gone i have zero faith that things will ever get better.
