So what. People fall in love with all these combine warriors, where was he at BYU? 4.5 sacks thats great, but he wasn't exactly playing world beaters over there.
People also like to completely forget Mingo had a good year in 2011, and played across form another good DE.

his 1st year playing football was his sophomore season. He didn't even know the rules of the game when he walked on, and has only played 3 years. He's completely mold-able and extremely intelligent

playing across from another good DE makes his job easier. I've never been impressed with Mingo and don't really see what he offers that Ansah doesn't

Thats great and all, but year three he isn't exactly beasting it. Despite his physical gifts. I am sorry but moldable isn't that impressive to me. He barely knows how to play football, and now he has to learn at the NFL level. HIs greatest accomplishment at BYU was having what would have been considered a disappointing year for Mingo.
Intelligence is great, but it doesn't make up for instinct. I don't know a lot about Ansah so i am not going to say he is going to be a bust, but i think he is getting a pass.

I don't see how you can hate Mingo and love Ansah? Both have issues.
Mingo's issues: doesn't weight enough for ST, not enough pass rushing moves.
Ansah's issues: stamina issues*, production issues, competition issues, football knowledge/instincts, pass rushing moves?
I think it's a case of familiarity breeding contempt with Mingo. If he played for Michigan St., we'd all love him.
* Per NFL.com - "Has admitted to a lack of stamina. Fatigue is noticeable after a few plays of rushing the passer."

I want Mingo more.
The option to say "A Mingo at the QB" is much more appealing than when Ziggy gets a sack and I scream "now that's the Ansah!"
That's right. I base my picks on catch phrases.

so this is supposed to be a plus for Mingo?
Mingo had NFL players all along the line his entire time starting...and he still wasn't a dominant player. It's not like teams were just gameplanning against him. And its not like everyone Mingo was going against were world beaters...there were some absolutely horrific offenses in the SEC and even worse quarterbacks the last few years that would've been bad in any conference.

they are both project prospects, except that Ansah is clearly more talented.
they'll both have to learn a completely new system with the 3-4. Mingo didn't exactly set the world on fire at LSU (same amount of sacks as Mingo)
Jimmy Graham had 213 receiving yardes in college. You take elite talent when you can get it

The plays get spread around when you have talent next to you. When you are running a guy down and there is someone on the other side to get the sack that hurts your numbers. Thats the point i was trying to make.

it also means no double teams and a guy can't escape pressure

It would be hard for Mingo to have more sack than Mingo.

about as hard as playing with elite talent surrounding you hurting your play

Mingo's first year as a starter was VERY good. He had 8 sacks and he'd only played DE for like 2 years at that point, and never in any real games.
Last year they doubled him more and he actually dropped back into coverage a lot more.
Mingo's going to be a good pass rusher in the NFL and will be fine dropping back if you ask me but he's going to have issues playing the run. He's very small and the frame isn't there to add too much more weight. Hell, he's already added a LOT of weight to get where he's at. Dude played Safety his senior year of high school.
His first step and explosion off the line are top-tier. Give him a headstart and he'll be able to get to the QB effectively imo. Wouldn't work as a down lineman at this level, but he's not gonna have to worry about that.

or other guys are flushing the guy out of the pocket to you...and being that Mingo was his best in chasing down guys to the outside I'd have to say that having significant talent everywhere else on the line did WAY more to help him than hurt him.

I'm just saying there is nothing negative that can be said about Mingo that can't be said about Ansah, and Jordan.
But Mingo and Bust have become pseudonyms on this board.

HArd to get as many sacks when Big Sam is coming on the other side.

NFL.com says you're wrong.
Ziggy's grade
Mingo's grade
And I don't care what you say about Mingo's production. I'll take his 119 tackles and 15 sacks against an SEC schedule over Ansah's 72 tackles and 4 1/2 sacks against a Mountain West schedule. Debate all you want, but those numbers aren't close.

I can say that Ansah is 30 pounds heavier and will be better against the run due to his size
Despite being 30lbs heavier, they both run around a 4.6 and have similar shuttle times

well his defense certainly had ample opportunity to be on the field
