That guy is a POS too, but suspending Rice for 3 games for this is basically covering it up. The AD should have absolutely acted stronger upon seeing this kind of video. Those players could sue the university. That would look real good for the school huh?

Does anyone feel the AD should. be fired for only firing him due to public outrage?

No.

I'd fire the AD as well. Not because of some "coverup" but bc he blew the handling of this situation.
He knew there was a video, and should have been smart enough to know what the public reaction would be if it went public.

For what? What injury was caused? I'm quite certain that not even a red mark was ever left on any of those basketball players. Don't forget that this was a cut up tape from over 3 years. This didn't happen on an everyday basis.

quote:you need to rethink things. Your head coach physically abused student-athletes. Your AD fined him and suspended him. He should have fired him and reported him to law enforcement authorities.
He didnt cover up anything. Rice was suspended and fined.

When parents do this type of things to their kids, they get arrested. But, you are okay with a suspension, fine, and not really telling people what happened? Awesome.

quote:true. there could be hours and hours and hours of more footage. And, just because a mark isn't left doesn't mean it isn't physical abuse.

What pain was caused? Can you sue for getting your feelings hurt? Wait, don't answer that last question.

Nothing should happen to the assistants. They all could have privately met with someone above them to discuss the matter. They all could have not said anything because they feared for their job. Who knows, I don't.
I'm not really sure how I feel about the AD. I'm leaning towards nothing happening because I'm not for him being fired, and I believe a fine or a short term suspension wouldn't really matter in the long run.
ETA: If he would have never disciplined the coach, I would say he needs to be fined or suspended at the very least.

I am not suggesting they should or that they would win, but they certainly could claim mental anguish and bring a suit against the school. That was my only point, that it would be awful press. Again, I would not agree with them doing so, but they could.

Well that certainly makes it ok then.
so there's equal outrage then, correct?... it's standard operating proceedure in news media.
the fact that rutgers let it come to this point is crazy... they had to know that eventually this information would get out, and it would cripple Rice's ability to recruit and maintain a program... he shouldn't be coaching.

The lack of evidence of physical abuse (red marks, bruises, pain, emotional scars) doesn't excuse someone for committing abuse. It is still abuse.

All that over a guy with a losing record.

I don't have a problem with the shoving, but when you start throwing things at people groins and heads, too far. The guy is not tossing the ball at them or doing it in a jokingly manner. The guy is throwing that shite with force, guy was pissed. Nobody deserves that, you are not that damn upset to try and hit someone in the head/face with a basketball or throw shite at their private parts. These are STUDENTS, not someone in prison.

Cowherd made a good point
Rutgers screamed for Imus to be fired for racial slurs etc and their coach does practically the same thing and they say ehhh nothing firable

Hell didn't LSU let Pokey go for "messing" with students. Hell that was "love". What do people think would happen to a guy assaulting their athletes, calling them gay slurs, etc.
