Yep... sort of.. well nevermind.
I like the MSI GD-45 Plus because it is south of $300 and will look awesome once I remove the "MSI" metal logos from North/South bridges.
It will look similar to my Z77 MPower with the MSI logos removed.

If so, what are you putting in there? I can't see the need for all of that.
I'm just putting my 4 sticks of Dominator Platinum 16GB (4x4GB) 2133MHz @ 1.6V

I am so confused why a lot of the 2011 boards have 8 slots.

Same reason why 1155/1150 boards have 4 slots?
Dual to Quad but for the video professional it will be much cheaper to do 32GB @ 8x4GB than 32GB @ 4x8GB. Memory density comes with a higher cost.
You also have to remember these 2011 boards are just server parts for the enthusiast and professional.

They utilize quad channel memory. Its the "enthusiast" line so they're probably making it as enthusiast as possible

Ahh...didn't know this for sure. I was thinking that might be the case but that makes much more sense.

It supports quad-channel memory, meaning the CPU can access four modules at a time simultaneously. There's minimal performance loss using two multi-channel configurations on the same board (hence, dual channel boards have four slots), so the extra slots can be used for the additional capacity, or for the ability to use more lower-capacity modules to benefit from the better timings and lower voltage generally found in good 4GB modules vs 8GB modules.
EDIT: I typed too slow.

Even hippies use SSDs because they save energy.
