didn't actually get to see one in person, but I would imagine not. Most of the stuff on the set looked pretty hoakie in person. I remember being surprised at how different it all seemed on TV.

I'm telling you, the Silver Snakes all ended up playing D1 athletics.
Yes, I'm damn near in tears over here watching this. Had a kid in my office that I let watch some of it with me and he says, "You guys had all the cool game shows".
Yes son. Yes we did.

Oh the glorious memories. He has to do more of these for other 90's Nick shows.

late 80's/early 90's nickelodeon was probably the best collection of kids programming ever.
adventures of pete & pete
all that
are you afraid of the dark?
clarissa explains it all
count duckula
double dare
doug
guts
hey dude
inspector gadget
land of the lost
legends of the hidden temple
nick arcade
ren and stimpy
rockos modern life
rugrats
salute your shorts
what would you do?
you can't do that on television
i'd probably watch nickelodeon now if that was their lineup

Does Nick even do the kid's gameshows anymore? Seems like they'd be extremely cheap to do and were wildly popular.
the reddit ama also reminded me, how in the hell did some of those kids struggle with putting that monkey together? Even jumpin johnny struggled with it. That always bothered me

I was an assistant so they made me do whatever was needed. The funnest was that I ran the course over and over as a "contestant" while they tested it out. I also did this with many other Nick games shows, like Nick Arcade, Guts, the revised Family Double Dare, etc. I'm trying to think of some of the others...
I worked as the "Gakmeister" as well. We made all the slime, goo, pies, food items, etc., used in the shows. At one point in time, the "Gak Kitchen" was a stop on the Nick Studio tour, but it was a real functioning kitchen used while the shows were in production.
The recipe for the Green Slime is (at least it was then): --- Apple Sauce --- Cellulose (for the foamy part) --- Food Coloring That's it! P.S. it had to be edible in case anyone got it in their mouth
Also, on my breaks, I took naps on the Big Orange Coach a lot. Ha ha.
greatest

Would you rather be on GUTS or LOTHT?

I can only imagine how much pussy i would get with a piece of the crag on my mantle. Panties would drop. Just flat out drop.

This is seriously my favorite Grantland article ever written. I honestly laughed out loud on numerous occasions.

the temple guards would never get away with their jagged approach to apprehending the young (particularly female) contestants nowadays

Me too. Anyone else used to get really pissed when the kids couldn't run up the chocolate slide on Double Dare?

The production cost of this show had to be beans I bet that host thought he was hot shite though in his 90s cargos.
