He certainly isn't. Which is why he shouldn't be played at AM for 90 minutes a match. People wonder why Altidore doesn't score goals - he has no service. Dempsey is only decent in link-up play. He's a great player in and around the box, and an average one when he isn't. He isn't particularly good at shooting from distance, and he has never been one to pick out a pass.

I think this midfield would be dynamic and would create chances for Altidore:

Dempsey, Holden, Bradley, Edu/Beckerman

I agree 100% on your analysis of Dempsey. Definitely doesn't strike me as a true number 10 that could carry an otherwise unimpressive midfield from an attacking standpoint. He can finish on chances and has good intangibles but he won't beat guys off the dribble and create. He needs great guys around him in order to thrive.

Beast, Feilhaber is probably our most creative mid fielder in terms of passing at the moment.
