Josh Booty made 1st team All-SEC. Alex Hurst made first team All-SEC. Would you take them at 15?
No, but considering that NFL GM's are looking at him in the top 15 (probably top 10) shows that you're wrong and you're point is stupid.
Did Booty even get drafted? (NFL, not MLB)

why did you start that rant thread about mingo months after your draft rankings?

come on, jeff. I just tried to explain this to you. Mingo "started" 15 games.
ah missed that but as chad pointed out comparing the last two years of their career are comparing 17 to 12.5 sacks in the sunbelt and SEC.

you realize Ware has since played in the NFL, right?
come on, Max

I'd take Jarvis Jones
I would rather take someone else as well but the two others i would take are not going to make it to the 15th pick. so if we get namndi and dion and jarvis are gone, who would you take?

I've watched Mingo too Maximus. I get the worry that is there. But his athleticism and potential talent is off the charts. His ceiling is as high as most guys in this draft.
And I agree that he sometimes would get washed out during run plays. But he was playing in a 4-3 on the line. At OLB standing up he will be able to utilize his speed and range more because he will have more space to move around and avoid blockers. In a 4-3 DE you take on the block and build a pile. Which isn't what Mingos strong suit is and he got washed out some. He's best in space and getting around blockers using his speed, length, athleticism, and range.
Plus, people are only talking about what he does against the run. The NFL is now a pass first league, especially after the bullshite RB rule that just passed. He will be a great LB against the pass. He looks as fluid as a safety when he's back pedaling and flipping his hips. And he played safety at WM in high school. I think he could be an answer to the jimmy Graham's and gronks out there. Not saying he will man them up and shut them down. But Gronk and Graham do most of there damage on the seam and middle of the field in between the LBs and Safety's. You put Mingo underneath and a safety over top and I think he will get some INTs. Lanky arms and a 38 inch vert. He will be able to take that seam route that the TEs love so much away. It will be hard for a QB to throw a pass on the seam with Mingo underneath.
Bruce Irvin had like 8.5 sacks this past year as a rookie, and I think Mingo is better than him. Irvin is a 1 trick pony against the pass and just uses his speed. If Irvin can get 8 sacks strictly using a speed rush, I'm pretty confident Mingo can too. I think Mingo will be great in coverage, good rushing the passer, and his play against the run should improve strictly because he will be in a 3-4 as an OLB with more space that will allow him to move and utilize his speed and athleticism.
And I'm not looking at his college #s. that's pointless IMO. Collegiate production doesn't translate to NFL production. The top QBs in college usually aren't the best in the pros. Colt Brennan threw for all those yards, but he won't see the field in the NFL. Kellen Moore was a good QB and he's going to be a backup his entire career. And I know QB and DE are different, just saying college production doesn't mean much in regards to what they will do in the NFL. Jason Pierre Paul only had 6 sacks at USF. 1 of the best rushers in the NFL.

Barkevious Mingo
6'4"
241 lbs
15 game starter
119 tackles
29.0 tackles for loss
15 sacks
4 forced fumbles
Some more comparisons:
Dion Jordan
Redshirted his first year, his RSFr year he was a TE/DE and his last two years he played DE.
24 starts (as best I can tell)
121 tackles
29 tackles for loss
14.5 sacks
4 forced fumbles
Does Jordan suck too?

Mingo is awesome. Saints board groupthink tells me so.
SHOULD WE? HECK YES!!!!!!!!!! With Walter Thomas clogging up blocks in the middle, Mingo will be able to fly in off the edge for at least 18 sacks per.

part of what makes the draft so intriguing is that there's always a degree of crasphoot involved
for fun I looked at the draft spots of NFL Defensive ROYs-
Kuechly #9 overall
Miller 2
Suh 2
Cushing 15- one pick after Malcolm Jenkins
Mayo 10- the spot the Saints traded out of to get Ellis
Ryans 33
Merriman 12
Vilma 12
Suggs 10
Peppers 2
Bell 39
Urlacher 9
Kearse 16

I know right. You sit here arguing stupid points yet you are making our case for us. You quickly point out how many sacks he has against sub par opponents yet never did that translate to how many sacks more he would have got had he played Troy's schedule for 2 years and that is totally dismissing the arguments of him playing with his hand in the ground, not being used properly and more limited snaps with a heavy LSU rotation. bOiiiiiiiiiii
I'm actually shocked at how good this post is

Boom.
Maximus got destroyed in this one comment. One of the best come-back arguments I have seen here in some time.
I read the whole thread up to this point and missed the utter simplicity and brilliance of Chad's point until he spelled it out. Very nice.

why are all the 2012 games against other "BCS" competition left off?

Come on man that is a reach if I've ever seen one. Even the best past rushers in the NFL don't show up some games. You still see the guy can produce against top caliber "BCS" opponents when undersized and out of position for his skill set. Do I think he is going to be Ware? Not necessarily, but I would be happy to get him.
any of these picks in this order I'm happy with
1) Jarvis Jones (screw the numbers dude can play ball)
2) Ansah (too lazy to look up spelling of first name. Ceiling through the roof)
3) Barkevious Mingo
4) Dion Jordan (Will go higher thankfully but I'm lower on him than the other three and would be happy with him also)

he had 4.5 sacks in 13 games

Way to get blinded by one thing there lets do a quick comparison
Dion Jordan (consensus top ten pick 2013)
12 games
44 total tackles 26 solo 18 asst.
10.5 TFL
5 Sacks
1 pass break up
1 QB hurry
3 Forced fumbles
LINK
Barkevious Mingo (worst player ever to be picked by saints according to Maximus and yes I know I'm exaggerating)
13 games
38 tackles 21 solo 17 asst.
8.5 TFL
4.5 sacks
3 pass break ups
12 QB hurries
1 forced fumble
LINK
I could care less about the sack total the QB hurries and the Three pass break ups are the most telling. Yeah he didn't get sacks but he got pressure and a lot of it. This is being undersized for his position and a natural fit for 3-4 Defensive OLB.
But I know
ONLY 4.5 SACKS
keep banging that drum

LSU homer here.
Give me Mingo!
I don't give a shite what ware did, what chad thinks, and surely what max thinks. I know the saints need a pass rusher and if Mingo is the best one in the board at 15, I'll be ecstatic to get him.
