How far has LSU Basketball fallen?

I remember the good years under Brown, and the drought after, until our recent final 4 run. I thought we were back. But we weren't. And we aren't.
When will we be?
Shoiuldn't it be reasonable to expect LSU to make it in to a field of 60+ teams about every year?
I really have quit following basketball for a long time, so I don't ask these questions sarcastically. There may be some selection committe reason, or RPI reason that I am clueless about.
