This dude is not a 4.5 guy. Don't care what he says. He looks nice though. Finally a big WR.

He is not 221 and he does not run a 4.5, regardless of what he or anyone says....probably more like 201 and a 4.6.
That being said, you have to like his determination, commitment, and hard work. He looks like a solid, tough, physical specimen. Perhaps he will be an early gem and blow up as the year progresses.

He looks a bit bigger than 201. Regardless, once he gets with Moffit, he could easily be in the 225-230 lb range without losing much speed at all. At that size he could be used out of the backfield just as much as out wide.
He's got really good hands, which is something that is extremely valuable on offense, and he seems to have another gear in the open field that could make him a really tough cover for linebackers and big dbs. We could use him a lot like Delany Walker and Vernon Davis were used by the 49ers or maybe Vonta Leach and Dennis Pitta with Baltimore. His size should also make him a nightmare for cornerbacks on the edge as a blocker.
One has to think that at this point, every offensive commitment has to be OK'd by Cam Cameron before it happens, and this guy just seems to be in the mold of those big, physical and versatile athletes that nfl teams are using these days to beat the underneath coverage of all these 3-4 defenses.
Tight ends, H-backs and RBs have become the answer on offense and I expect that the guys we recruit moving forward will reflect that, starting with Mr. Upchurch.

I'll also add this. If you look at the type of teams that have beaten bama over the last few years, and the players that were critical to accomplishing that, it's not always the best receivers, but usually the toughest.
Guys like Alshon Jeffrey, Emory Blake, Rueben Randall, Ryan Swope and Jarvis Landry have all had success against the bama defenses because of their willingness to make the tough catches against tight coverage and take the big hits when they do.
I think the coaches are looking to recruit that type of player at wr, which may explain why Sims does not have an offer yet. He may still have to prove he can be that type of guy.

I was thinking Anquan when I watched that too. Looks like he and Shorter could be hidden gems in this class.

Everyone is constantly bitching about not offering Sims but no one will come out and say it....it's because Alabama offered Sims.
I also think it has something to do with those people thinking it will hurt our chances with Cam Robinson. Not saying I feel this way, just saying another reason why I feel people are upset about Sims not being offered. I know, I'm Capitan Obvious.

Remember that Cam Robinson transferred to West Monroe in 2012 (junior year). I don't know that he has long-term friendships with the WM players. So I don't think how LSU "treats" Sims will affect Robinson's recruitment...although you got to assume that BAMA might play that angle.
The bigger issue, I think, is that LSU has now taken 2 verbal commitments from under-the-radar prospects (Alexander and now Upchurch) who visited LSU on a weekend, got the offer, and then committed within 24 hours. I'm curious/concerned how this impacts commitments from the aforementioned top instate WRs. Will Quin, Dupre, and Noil commit soon (by April 20, Spring Game)?
Will Upchurch's commitment stick? While some think he might simply use it to leverage scholarship offers from a preferred program, I think the fact his visited and committed with HIS FAMILY in attendance makes it highly likely that he will remain committed to LSU.

At some point, recruitniks need to get off this "I want the instate guys!!!!" mantra. Take the best players - even if they are from Iran.
Frank & Les are saying that we want you (Speedy, Quinn & Dupre) but if you don't commit soon you may not have a spot as we are still looking since you are still looking. Makes full sense to my pragmatic level of thought!

looking at this kid's film, I am very impressed, fights for the ball, makes people miss, great hands, gets poorly thrown balls...I am sold...

I like the highlights. He has good hands an looks really good coming out of the backfield. RB perhaps?

Lets be fair. I think if Tony had any other offers, he would be looking around too. Congrats to the kid, he knew where he wanted to be and pulled the trigger! Welcome aboard Tony!
