For those who supported the owners in the NFL lockout

Just ridiculous
I don't have a problem with the owners making money, but I do have a problem with them totally misrepresenting themselves in order to STEAL from the people who are actually doing the work. I'm not sure Jerry Richardson doesn't actually believe people will pay money to see him throw passes to Jerry Jones.
NFLPA also deserves some of the blame for caving but sadly when your league is dominated by people in their early to mid 20's it can be difficult to get them to understand the long view and how they are being screwed over. Later in life they will realize that they have been stolen from.

Germans and tough shite for the players. Shouldve stuck to your guns.
And I was 100 percent behind players.

Also the smartest guy in the room will likely always be the most successful. There is a reason these guys can own football teams and the players get paid a fraction of what an owner makes to run into each other at high speeds.

players definitely deserve a lot of blame as I said in my OP.

Is 100 million in profit really anything sensational for an NFL franchise?

over 2 years. meh.

That's not the issue. The issue is acting like the system was completely broken and the owners were losing money hand over fist when clearly that was a total fabrication.

I'd rather the owners make boatloads of money so they don't feel the need to raise prices on us more than they already do

And now you see why they didn't open their books when they were claiming to lose money...

People just look at the profit of $100M and think "damn that is a lot of money!" and it is. But this is a $1B company. And yes the NFL is very popular. But something could happen to turn the tide. No one is going to invest in keeping something going if it's making peanuts and you have $1B at risk.

Exactly. And again, the system is set up to guarantee that all owners turn a profit.
The NFL is not like other franchise businesses where an actual risk is being taken.

Richardson purchased the team for 200 million. And again, there is no risk whatsoever for an NFL owner.

not really .. this franchise, as the books show, was not in a great position.

Richardson was claiming that they were losing money.
They were not.
Period. End of story.
This needs to be posted again:
owner fanboy cult

As was pointed out last night from the financials released they had a negative gross operating margin and zero revenue growth.

NBA players got shafted harder.

The franchise itself was, without revenue sharing, Richardson would have made practically no profit.

You can't take that element out of the equation.
It's like saying, "Well, if my company hadn't paid me as much as they are contractually obligated to, I would not have made as much money last year."
ETA: But you still bring up a good point, even if you didn't mean to. The lockout wasn't really about owners vs. players. It was about a group of "large market" owners against the rest. The big guys wanted to get rid of revenue sharing, while guys like Richardson didn't. So they took advantage of the end of the CBA to try to get money from the players in order to minimize the damage between each other.
