There may be more art and luck involved to successful drafts than science. The science is a part though. That's why teams employ a staff this large-
Ryan Pace Director of Pro Scouting
Rick Reiprish Director of College Scouting
Brian Adams Assistant Director of College Scouting
Terry Fontenot Pro Scout
Ryan Powell Pro Scout
Mike Baugh Area Scout
Dwaune Jones Area Scout
Josh Lucas Area Scout
Jim Monos Area Scout
Terry Wooden Area Scout
Ryan Hollern Combine Scout
Joey Vitt, Jr. Combine Scout
Jason Mitchell College Scouting Coordinator
Joey Laine Salary Cap Analyst/Player Personnel
Danny Callahan IT/Applications Development Manager
Michael Parenton Scouting Assistant
Casey Talley Scouting Assistant
Andy Huffman IT/Applications Development Assistant
I get draftaholic over how much it can affect your team. The Ellis type busts are why the defense has been poor. The Colston, Evans, and Grahams have been essential to mantaining a top 5 offense for 7 seasons now. A comparable "hit"or two on defense like those offensive guys could make the team a juggernaut. Clay Matthews a #26, Daryl Washington a #47, William Moore a #55, Sean Smith a #61, Navarro Bowman a #91, Geno Atkins a #120 are lower type picks that have had major impact on defenses.
A #75 Corey Lemonier, Brandon Williams, or Jonathan Cyprien type might end up being that kinda guy. That's where the science part of deciding who comes into play.

I really like this guy & his burst off the edge. He would be a nice addition if still available at the #75 slot.

all of those could be gone by 75 but not out of the question for any either. Just on laws of probability methinks the Saints are due for a good defensive player draft score.

Yeah, he could end up being this year's Bruce Irvin. A team won't necessarily take a leap on him in the 1st round but he we could possibly go higher then projected. I definitely agree that the team is due for more hits then misses when it comes to drafting defensive players.
