Irons: reshafting vs buying new set

So I like my Titleist AP1s, but after switching back from AP2s, I do miss a little the stiff feel of the S300 shaft, but not the heavy weight.
Who here has ever had their irons re-shafted? I was looking at the Project X PXI 6.0 shafts... A club shop told me one time though that reshafting irons is expensive and really no point in it, you might as well just buy a new set with the shafts you want in it.
Any opinions or tips on this? Or where they might have cheaper shafts/installs?

Do you want to spend a $1000 or $300-$400?
Or you can do it yourself
You can buy a used set of iron shafts off of golfwrx.

That's the thing... If I'm spending 1,000 on shafts then I might as well buy new clubs. I prefer the 300 range

the Pxi's are $40 each = $320
most places charge around $30 each club to reshaft = $240
$560
Pxi's are $30 upcharge through titleist and AP1s are $800= $1040
But if you order through discountdansgolf.com you can get a better price on it.

I've been reading that over time, shafts stiffen.

Thanks man, I'll look into it. I know my home course (Oakbourne) does re-shafting, but I'm sure they'll charge a ridiculously high amount. You wouldn't happen to know any good places in the Lafayette area would you?

Update: just found a set of dynalite gold xp s300 shafts and ordered them. Golf connection in Lafayette said they would do it for 15/club. All in all this project is going to coat about 200. Not bad!

Yea that sounds pretty reasonable

I just went through this issue myself, and ended up getting new irons. I had AP2s with s300s and they're too heavy for me. If you can sell your old clubs on eBay, you'll probably come out about the same as if you reshafted your current irons. Plus, you won't have a set of AP1s that you've put $1200 + into. I ended up buying new irons for $700 with the shaft I need , and I expect to get about $350 or so for my AP2s. That'll put me right under the cost of buying new shafts, and I won't have a set of AP2s that I've put $1500 into.

Well these AP1s I have now are the 710s. I bought them on eBay in great condition for about 360. Sold my AP2s with the DG s300s on eBay for 430. So I a actually made profit on the clubs lol.
All in all, this set is about $550 all in. I prefer the 710 heads to the 712s.
I very rarely buy clubs new. You can find near mint clubs online for half the price.
