Serious 1911 buying question.

So I am about to buy a 1911 in the next month or so. I already have a few handguns that take care of most defense situations. Also plenty of shotguns.
So the gun I'm after (unless advised strongly otherwise) is the Springfield TRP. I haven't decided on the color yet but I won't have a rail on this one. Any advise is welcome. Thanks in advanced
ETA: im also open to other suggestions.

Well you advised on a few but I would definitely like your opinion on these.

Dew it. I was eyeing the kimber carry pistols but then I realized I'm AR broke

The trp is great and a good looking one at that.
It will either come with target sights or novaks. I would get novaks just because I hate targets unless its strictly for shooting for matches.

If it is good enough for FBI HRT, it is good enough for you.

Weagle99, thanks for the input. I put a lot of thought in the colt vs springer contest and there were a few things I found:
1. The sprinters had a better resale
This is ok but usually the better product resells better
2. The colt special combat government I handled was VERY loose.
Please educate me on your thoughts!

KR, the ones without the rails all come with Novak night sights!

Is get the rail and change the sights. It's tough to add a rail.

I have a TRP. I love it. One fine piece of weaponry.
You going for the operator?

TRP is an excellent choice.

That's surprising. For comparable models Colt normally holds value that meets or often exceeds other makers. You weren't comparing a base model Colt and a top of the line Springfield right?

New gun? The 1911 models coming out of Colt these days are normally very tight (the slides and frame are hand lapped to fit during the assembly process). Earlier guns intentionally had looser tolerances like the original 1911 that was designed to operate in mud and crud.
Colts are made in America and use almost 100% forgings or machined bar stock. This sets them apart from almost every other 1911 on the market.
Of course, if you are a Colt enthusiast nothing else will do.

Probably wont go the operator/rail route. Dr, thanks for chiming in. Do you have any others that you consider better or worse. Thanks

I have a Kimber Warrior that I would consider on par with it. It's better or worse depending on my mood that day.

Surprised that you saw colts for more. Ill do more research.
As for #2 yes brand new special combat government which comes out of their custom shop. 21xx dollars at jims. Awesome looking guns But the match up and trigger were both complete garbage. I'm not bashing colt but that particular one blew my mind at how bad it was. Literally couldn't believe it was that bad

Warriors are great looking guns. By chance, have you ever shot them side by side in a vice or bench rest?
Posted on 3/5/13 at 9:29 pm to LouisianaChessie
Just let me shoot them. You'll get the same effect.

No, I've akimboed them for shits and giggles though. I've also brought both to the range at the same time.
I like the grips on the warrior slightly better and the magwell is bevelled on the TRP which makes for quicker reloads, but that's about it between the two.
