I saw both Pink Floyd and Led Zepplin in the PMAC.....hard to choose but let's just say PF was a mind altering experience so it stands out more.....

you pretty much saw the two most legendary bands of all time sir. From the footage I've seen of Led Zeppelin, they are a better live band than anything out there right now including jam bands. The level of talent all around was just spectacular. Please tell more about pink floyd in the pmac. What songs did they play? what year was it?

Mojo Nixon at a bar near the South Gate in 1988. He was hilarious and rockin' like hell.

His opening act was a Donaldsonville band called The Dick Nixons, all of whose songs were about you-know-who ("Dick Nixon fought the law, and the law won" was one lyric of theirs -- another was "If you don't bring Dick Nixon back, We're gonna paint the White House black!").

One thing I recall about that show. Some guy was climbing a tree just off the club property so he could see the show w/o paying. Some bouncers were making moves toward trying to force him out of the tree when Mojo started saying “Leave the tree guy alone!“.

Soon the whole audience was chanting “Leave the tree guy alone! Leave the tree guy alone!“

I recall somebody was there with a video camera shooting the show -- I'd love to get a copy of that tape...

Weirdest show: Jonathan Richman c. '96, before an audience of perhaps 8 people. While Jonathan was singing a train derailed nearby and we had to evacuate the club...

Bruce was a great front man. Still is, really. Used to really whip a crowd in a frenzy. Beyond the music, it was a hell of an experience.

Hallowed be thy name

Seeing them perform this live should have been a top 10 concert goal back in the day for anyone

I prefer standing venues for "smaller bands" over the larger venues for "bigger bands". Better environment and better show IMO.

I'd say the best shows I've been to are Avett Brothers and Dr. Dog. The best big concert I've been to was RHCP. But I enjoyed Avett and Dr. Dog more so than RHCP, one of my all time favorite bands.

Just my take on live music.

Holy shite..

Never saw either. But I did see Roger Waters and he did a bunch of Floyd stuff. He was actually very good

For those that saw Maiden, I did go see Black Sabbath. It was the loudest concert I have ever been to. My damn head hurt for a week..

Too loud actually

Little Feat on the Riverboat President for Jazz Fest in 1988. It was their first show after the death of Lowell George and it was electric. Bonnie Raitt, Jimmy Buffett, and Ed Bradley played with the band as well. They were as tight as they sound on Waiting for Columbus; most of which they played; just a great show.

Kiss put on a great show. Those old guys could teach the younguns a thing or two.

Kid Rock had the most diverse crowd i have ever seen at a concert. white,black,redneck,hippies,skaters...

oh and he performed for like 2 1/2 hrs with no breaks.

Club: Man Man at The Loft. I thought the floor was gonna cave in.

Arena: Peter Gabriel at the Cap Center. Seriously, it was like a Broadway show. Amazing set, and I'm not even a big Peter Gabriel fan.

Festival: The Avett Brothers at SXSW. Fell in love with a band, and it was one of my first dates with my future wife. The Avetts are responsible for my marriage, and we only saw them because a Village Voice photographer told us we had to see them after we arrived late for Cursive's set. She said the Avetts are her favorite band and they will be ours (this was right around when Emotionalism was released).

Odd Venue: Alkaline Trio in a church bingo hall. There was no A/C and it had to be 100 degrees outside. People were passing out from the heat, but we sang along to 97 for about 10 minutes.

Best Moment: Watching a guy in an Agent Orange t-shirt join a mosh pit at a Rollins Band show at the 930 Club. A guy with a homemade FEAR shirt saw the poseur and tore him apart. Man, I miss hardcore punk.

Iron Maiden back in Aug '82

Was that in Shreveport with Fastway and New England? Took my then girlfriend and eventual wife. Unbelievable concert. Maiden killed it.

Others: Baton Rouge State Fairgrounds '82 with Vandenberg, Blue Oyster Cult, Ozzy Osbourne.

When they first come out, Bon Jovi opened for everyone. We saw them open for Journey, .38 Special and ZZ Top all in Atlanta. Night Ranger (who remembers them) also opened for a few.

My one sleeper. Tony Carey. Saw him in concert at Six Flags. Guy put on a hell of a show, even if you did not know a lot of his music..
