News to me. I thought it was illegal to shoot any bird off the roost

If there aren't pellets in his feet, he wasn't killed off a limb.

I thought the same until about 2010 when I was at a Convention.

I've actually shot an Ocellated Turkey off the roost in Mexico. Its completely legal there and the local subsistence hunters do it all the time. It was actually one of the most memorable turkey hunts of my life. The Ocellated turkeys dont roost in groups as they do here. Getting close without spooking the bird and then picking a single turkey out of the jungle canopy in the dark is pretty damn difficult. When turkeys sleep the head and tail hang below the limb almost as if you hung a horseshoe over a limb. That stuck with me, for some reason I wasn't expecting them to sleep in such a position. Anyhow, suffice to say that turkey had a rude awakening...
