I recently moved to an area that has them in the rivers and canals. I've heard a little about them and read a little, but I've never seen or caught one. Just wondering if anyone here has any experience or could give me a little advice.

quote:what did you catch them on? I've been told anything artificial, topwater, that splashes around a bunch. the bigger, louder, crazier....the better. basically reel it in as fast as you can with as much action as possible.

I used topwaters, fished it pretty fast.

I have some topwater rapalas in my tacklebox similar to this. Think they'll do the trick?

Hell yeah, one of the funnest fish to catch IMO.
I'm hopin to go back in may to do it again. My aunt and uncle live in the ft lauderdale area and he goes fishin for them every chance he gets.
Best of luck to you.

I'll check back if I get one tomorrow. I doubt it though cause it's gonna be windy and cold all day

Man those do look fun to catch. If I would have the chance, I would like to go to the Amazon and catch them. What do they taste like?

yeah, they get Huge down in the Amazon. They're supposed to be great eating. Great fighting. Will hit anything. They seem like the perfect fish.

They taste pretty good. It's a very white meat, similar to a white sac a crap.

Where do they have peacock bass in the US

and they're only in south florida. don't think there are any north of west palm beach. mainly in palm beach county, broward county, and dade county. probably some on the west coast as well, but I'm not sure

Caught them up to 7 pounds in a lake on Oahu when I was stationed thereThey would smash jerk baits and topwaters. Beautiful fish.

Peacock bass... reminds me of late 80's/early 90's ESPN and TNN fishing shows.

Lake Wilson. Up in Wahiawa. Used to catch some good largemouth in there as well.
