Texas usually has recruiting finished by June. Brown selects his players during camps and usually has recruiting finished by the summer before national signing day the following Feb.

Brockers was a good prospect, but Texas had wrapped up their recruiting by the time Brockers commited to LSU.

You make it sound like Texas and Mack Brown are the only one's that use camps to evaluate and lock up recruits. LSU, Bama and all top programs are doing that and have for several years. If they stop recruiting by June and pass on late bloomers as you suggest, well that explains 22-16 the last 3 years. That would be lazy and freaking stupid.

If Texas starts targeting Louisiana, they will be a serious threat like Bama.

I have never understood why Texas does not recruit more nationally. Sure Texas produces a lot of talent, but they have the name and the appeal of Austin they should be able to recruit nationally. I think arrogance and laziness are the reasons they don't. However, I'm not the least bit concerned about Texas targeting La. As big of threat as Bama is, we've still only lost 1 guy, Collins, that we really fought for. And if they do target La, that just leaves more guy's open in Texas.

Mack Brown was on the LSU staff thirty years ago and was their best recruiter.

I know you are probably trolling, but this is taking it to a new level. 30 years ago? really? When Mack Brown was on the LSU staff the HC at Alabama was Bear Bryant. No one disputes he is a great recruiter, that's been his best attribute at Texas, but his time is past. He's done.

LSU offered him the LSU job after Hallman was fired but he turned it down

IIRC we technically did not offer him the job because is salary demands were more than cheap arse Joe Dean wanted to pay. I would have loved Mack Brown in 1994, not so much in 2013.

Until Mack Brown starts to like recruiting and gets off his lazy but and puts some effort into it, this is much ado about nothing.
UT is a good school and a top program, but it seems to be in slow decline.
The article is right.
Texas has an opportunity to build a "pipeline" into La.
So does Montana State and Univ. of New Hampshire.
