A scouts job is to evaluate a player. I imagine that he might be able to tell that a guy, who ended up running an elite time, does not have "average speed" just from watching game tape.
It's funny because its the same language used to describe every white skill player and in this instance they were dead wrong. The fact that the NFL removed the seemingly innocuous line (haven't checked, but I'm going to guess the other posters aren't lying) about an hour after a popular blog pointed it out, makes it even funnier.

I don't need to, your saying that a player with quantifiable elite speed was slow on tape. that's even worse than the guy who thought he looked slow but didnt have any quantifiable data to go on.

I don't understand how people are whining about this. I am not advocating any way for Swope (couldn't tell you what kind of player he is, who the frick watches A&M?). But there definitely are people who run the 40 slow, but play fast, and vice versa.

Actually, I figured 4.3 was the least he could do. My little brother was on the A&M team with back in 2010 and said Swope's actually run faster unofficial 40 times. Times always dip in the combine so I was honestly expecting 4.3-4.4.
