who said anything about overpaying him? there is now a 4 going on 5 page thread because he said he was lowballed. 1. there's no clear indication that he was even referring to contract negotiations with the Saints (and he stated later that it wasn't the case), 2. even if it was, that does not mean he is asking for more than his market value, 3. this is all part of a negotiating process, and 4. now fans here are acting as if the guy is no good based off of one tweet saying he was lowballed.
Let's cut the the subjective BS. Neither of us know what was actually offered.
How much do you think the Saints should the Saints offer for Galette? Your answer to this will help you understand why there is a gap between your opinion and others in this thread.

my point exactly

something backloaded with a fair signing bonus. one that has an option to cancel if he doesn't pan out after 2 years. the numbers are irrelivant, because contracts are much more complicated than just a per year figure. to go along with your question though, I'd say a 3mill signing bonus for 5 yrs, with the first two years being in the 800K range and the 3-5 years in the 2mill range with a 3 mill roster bonus after year 2, which allows the team to evaluate and decide if they will retain him for those last three years or not.
these are just numbers off the top of my head, and my point is that these numbers mean nothing. i don't know what the going rate for an OLB in his situation is, but the organization and his agent do. they will work it out and get it done. he may have an inflated sense of worth, but what player doesn't? if he is asking for 5 mill/year and refuses anything less, then he is insane and will be gone. however, we have no clue what numbers are being thrown around, so this vitriol towards him is misplaced
