Pretty certain he can
No. He has a trade clause for the first year that allows him to veto trades and cannot be traded to the team that signed him to an offer sheet at all.
Larry Coon for proof:
quote:
"If a team matches an offer sheet and retains their free agent, then for one year they cannot trade him without his consent, and cannot trade him at all to the team that signed him to an offer sheet. They also can't trade the player in a sign-and-trade transaction."

Didn't he provide clarification that the "no trade to Phoenix" deal is for the first year like the no trade?

What I was thinking as well, Jester.

Upon examination, that is correct. Once the year is up he can be traded to Phoenix.

He cannot be traded at all to Phoenix until that one year from the date of matching expires, he can be traded to any other team provided he agrees.
Give us Gortat, Dragic, and a pick, done deal.

That's what I thought.
I'm more of a hater. Just give me the top-7 pick.

Sign and trade whom for them?
Gordon? No.

Pretty sure he would veto a trade to Germany so that was just a stupid comment

THROW IT IN THE TRADE MACHINE

Where's Tom Penn?!?
I was listening thinking, "How does a FO guy not know the rules?"

Was he saying at the deadline or at the end of the year?
Eta: I see where you put "today"

I'm a hater and a pessimist.
Move him to Phoenix for their pick and Dudley.
Get Shabazz and Porter in the draft. .
Let the wonderful trainers of the Phoenix organization magically cure all of Gordon's aches.
Move on. Yes, I'm irrational, melodramatic, etc, etc

I heard the same interview and he was talking about at the deadline. I thought it was pretty weird for him not to know.
Posted on 2/21/13 at 3:46 pm to Fun Bunch
Yeah, other than messing that up, he had some pretty good insights on what goes on behind the scenes at the deadline. Same with Flip Saunders.

If he plays well these last 25 games or so, we'll be able to get good value for him in the offseason and not be restricted by his veto power.
