Truth. And this story was ripe for a great Disney adaptation.

Execution was terrible though.

I don't think it was terrible, but it certainly pails in comparison to basically all of Disney's other films that decade. It's sort of a pre-Dreamworks film and is somewhat a prototype for it. If they were going to do a ridiculous version of history/mythology, they should have just gone all out and done what "The Emperor's New Groove" did.
