Wow, i didn't remember that. They must have had a bad non-conf record.
They lost 6 non-conference games, all away from home. The losses were to St. Peter's, Iowa, and Seton Hall (all neutral), and at Purdue, Providence, and Oklahoma State. Not horrible, but certainly no world-beaters on that list.
Their home non-conference wins were all garbage. They didn't play a single BCS conference school. They feasted on the likes of Troy, Alabama A&M, Florida A&M, Lipscomb, SE LA, etc...
The point is...12-4 in the SEC is NOT impressive anymore. The league as a whole plays a poor non-conference schedule, and in the last few years, has been losing a lot of early season games to crappy teams. Couple a weak non-conference schedule with a poor conference and you have a team with a lot of wins not getting in.
LSU is in the same boat as Alabama was that year...terrible non-conference schedule plus terrible conference.
This is NOT like football. SEC football teams can schedule garbage non-conference teams and get away with it because the league is so strong.
As mentioned earlier, 4 of our 6 conference wins are almost useless because the teams that we beat have such low RPI's.
The SEC has 3 teams with RPI's in the 200's--South Carolina, Auburn, and Mississippi State. That is unheard of for this league and it is a new low. They are totally bringing the whole league down. Vandy in the mid 150's isn't helping.
So yeah...we could win out and find ourselves still in the NIT.

Wasn't referring to you, LSUGrad, you finally stopped the madness.
The fact that some people think we only need to get to that magical number of 20 wins to get in the big dance had me

Winning 20 games won't do it. But if we win out, then we would be on fire down the stretch and that they would look at. If we won the next 6 games and then 2 in the SEC tourny I honestly believe we would have a damn good shot at getting in the NCAA. Now again, that is pretty unlikely to play out.

You gave a legit rational for your reasoning.
That's not welcome here by the A/H's.

Yeah...and it is ok to think like that...if it is 1998. Times, they are a changin...and the SEC used to be relevant in basketball.

The SEC actually had better RPI and SOS numbers in 2009, when they only got 3 teams in (highest being LSU as an 8).

Ruh Roh....
I think toughest game left is @Tenn then @Mizzou then @aTm then Alabama. Records sometimes lie.

If we can manage to beat Mizzou and Ole Miss, two ranked teams, and win a few games in the tournament, I think we have a shot at an at large...or what about a play in game?

Only 3 SEC teams max are going dancing. Had we beaten Auburn, South Carolina, and Georgia all 3 games we should have won looking at it now it would be a different story in 2nd place in the conference and solidly on the bubble. LSU needs to win out regardless to solidify their NIT resume because whats sad is that not every SEC team with a winning record may get in to the NIT.
