quote:Well, let's see.
What moves would you have made with all the space last summer to make the team a contender?
Free agents last year still available when we signed Gordon: (and correct me if I'm wrong on these guys not being around when we signed Gordon, I'm doing this from memory)
Asik
Mayo
Dragic
Jodie Meeks
CJ Miles
Kirelinko
N. Robinson
Scola
Beasley
Haywood
And probably others.
My point being, we let Gordon walk, it's not like there weren't a lot of other options out there available to us to improve our roster. And atleast a lot of the guys I mentioned aren't total pussies and actually go out and play for the teams they're on.

Yeah, it was either re-signing a potential All Star or sitting on $13m of cap space.

Agreed. Signing Gordon was not only a reasonable move at the time, they had to do it. So far he's been disappointing. We'll see what happens in the long run.

They had to.
But they did, and so far it has been proven to be a very bad call
But hey, we can't see the future here. They didn't know that he was going to be such a little bitch (although I'm not sure why not, a lot of evidence there)
But they can rectify it by trading him the second they have the leverage and so forth to make a beneficial trade for the organization.

This is another argument, but I wonder if they did their homework on him before they traded for him. It's not like he gave us some good years, then he soured on us. He pretty much us from the start.

Yes, they did
Or else they would have just gotten Austin Rivers for the 2013 All-Star Game MVP

Just me, but I don't give out max contracts to someone who only played 9 games last year.

So...exactly what did happen when we signed him would have happened if we wouldn't have signed him?

If the two of y'all don't understand the talent level that Gordon possesses and the reasons for why they had to sign him; I just don't know what to tell y'all.
You just can't let players of Gordon's talents walk.

You don't win on talent alone. You gotta have heart.

You're underestimating Gordon's talents. He's not elite, but he's really good.

A multiple threat who can power to the rim and rain 3s, Gordon could take his game up another level by raising his jump shot from good to great. He's at 37.0 percent for his career on 3s and 80.7 percent from the line; to justify a max contract he probably needs to approach the 40/90 levels. But even at his current numbers, he's pretty darned good.
From a guy that knows a good bit about basketball.

What middle school coach told you that?

Asik and Mayo were the only difference makers on that list that maybe get the Hornets into the playoff conversation.
Gordon signed for 13.7 million.
Asik and Mayo cost about $9million. Perhaps they sign Meeks as a backup 2 instead of Mason.
If the sign Asik, they don't move Jack to make room for Lopez.
Jack/Vasquez/Rivers
Mayo/Meeks/Rivers
Aminu/Henry/Miller
Davis/Anderson/Smith
Asik/Smith/Davis
If everything goes well, that team probably caps out at 35-40 wins.
But Asik's deal is backloaded to be a $14million hit in 14/15. Not sure if that's the way they want to go. Mayo has outplayed his deal and will opt this summer to cash in so they would have to resign him.
I don't think that is really a better situation long term than what they have now. A healthy Gordon is better than Mayo. Obviously Gordon needs to get healthy, but it was the right move on and off the court to resign him.

What's better?
Less than max deal Mayo who actually plays
Max deal Gordon who doesn't play

The stuff people were saying about Lebron at this time a year ago looks pathetic now.

Gordon does play. And has been playing since December 29. You can't predict how often he will be injured. If they did their homework and the doctors cleared him, I'm not sure what else they could have done.
Here's what we know- when Gordon plays, the Hornets are around a +1 in Net efficiency. That puts them in playoff contention.
He needs to play more, but unless you've got access to his medical records and are a certified orthopedist, you have no idea what is going on

Lebron's talent > Gordon's talent. Not a fair comparison.
Give me a team of Joakim Noahs.

We've already discussed Klay coming to NOLA.
Wanted to get your thoughts on this; Gordon for Waiters and Zeller?
