Probably not.
But let me ask you. Is one of the reasons because we gave a max contract to Gordon?

Why not? Teams like Golden State got aggressive in the off-season with free agents and they made a huge jump up. Houston got aggressive and they're an 8 seed after being terrible.
I just think this whole "just give little poopie pants Gordon another year, give Rivers another 2-3 years, etc." that is so pervasive on this board is a shitty attitude. I get that it takes time, and it takes patience and all the "it took the Thunder 3-4 years to do it, it doesn't happen overnight" stuff
But frick, I want us to be good right now, and I think that should be every fans expectation of the team that they follow.

I would say no considering we will have the most cap space in the league next year. We aren't getting 2 max players in free agency.

Not at all. They gave him a max because he is a very good player when healthy. The roster makes sense with Gordon healthy. Gordon and Aminu are the only two players with a Net Rating over +1.

Even with his max deal, they have plenty of space to get players, either via trade or FA, this summer.

I think it's safe to say everyone on this board would want us to be contenders at this very moment, but we aren't going from 3rd worst record to upper echelon overnight. If trading Gordon is a part of us jumping into that upper circle then I have faith that Demps will pull the trigger.

At this point Gordon is easily the most overpaid player in the entire NBA

Not necessarily. But regardless, if you find a way to go back and change history, you'll be a rich man.

And to answer your question more specifically, I think so. You have cap space, lottery picks, young 1st round talent that has been underachieving here, but GMs with big egos will think they can mold into solid rotation guys (ie Aminu, Henry, Rivers)
But unfortunately I think we also got rid of a lot of those pieces in the last year or so in the drive to clear cap space, which we then subsequently did nothing with, other than make the mistake of signing a over-hyped vagina of a player.

Sorry, not quite understanding you. You say we will have the most cap space, but we won't attract max players? Why do you think that?

Because we aren't the Heat, Lakers, Clippers, Knicks, etc. We haven't established a reputation as a place to go if you want to win. If the walrus wasn't such a shite GM we probably could've gotten a decent player to join CP3 in his prime.

Getting Ryan Anderson was a really good signing.

What moves would you have made with all the space last summer to make the team a contender?

That is what is frustrating about this whole thing. There is nothing in the foreseeable future that's going to change this. Head coach included!

Good draft picks and good under-the-radar signings as well.
Look at Kawhi Leonard for the Spurs.
They gave up George Hill - who was playing great for SAS and Pop loved him - but the FO made a great move in making this trade.
Little moves like that...

Love him. Love Davis. Vasquez growing on me. Lopez serviceable. Other than that.

I definitely would NOT have thrown a max deal at a mental case who hasn't proven ANYTHING

That was definitely a window of opportunity for this franchise. But when you overpay James Posey and trade Tyson Chandler because of his "chronic" ankle/foot problem, you've probably shite the bed.

They had to. They made a big leap forward in winning the lottery.
They couldn't take two giant leaps back and not sign Gordon
