Price several products from several companies and see how they come in

Understand your policy and know what you have

one company may be better or worse for you vs other people depending on age and answers to health questionnaire

Hey ... we have BCBS Blue Saver for our family of 5. We have a 5600 ded (includes all of us; doctor visits/prescriptions all go to it) and then we have 80/20 copay once we meet that. We went from 100% copay to 80/20 to bring the premium down. We have had this policy for a LONG time, as in more than 12 years.

We've only me our ded 1 time in all that time .. met it on 2/14 of one year and at the time had 100% coverage for the rest of the year. BCBS was great and never had a problem.

We put it on paper ... premium x12 + 5600 ded = less than the premium per month x12 months to have copays for MD visits, prescriptions, etc. In that case we'd have 3 ded to meet (although they were lower).

This works for us ... I now people freak out when we tell them what our ded is but again, it works for us and we got tired of paying the premium for copays that we seldom used.

Good luck!
