My 5 year old monitor just kicked the bucket. Anyone have advice on what to get in the 27" area? Looking at staying in the 350 range.

You can order the Auria 27" IPS 2560 X 1440 from Microcenter for $399. I picked one up on Sunday and am liking it a lot.
It does have a matte finish due to the anti glare covering.

Just get a catleap or Qnix or whatever brand Korean IPS from ebay for $350-$375. 1440p. Gloss screen, dont get the anti-glare.
I mean, this assuming you have a good graphics card. You might want to stick with 1080p

Could I get a link to one that would be recommended?I don't know enough about good contrast etc.

It appears they've come up in price in the past 6-9 months. Used to be around $350-$400. That seller is top notch though. Buy from him.
However, before you do, what graphics card are you running?
That one has HDMI support, so the big issue here will simply be whether your card can handle gaming at 1440p. There is a significant increase in performance requirements when jumping from 1080 to 1440. And if you have a good graphics card, you can spend less and get one that only has DVI-D, like this: LINK
EDIT: I bought this one sometime last year from the same seller: LINK
I paid a little less for it. Must be lower supply right now. Either way, it's still an excellent deal with free shipping and no tax, if your graphics card supports it.

Thanks for the info. When they talk about the import taxes etc, is that something I do need to worry about? Never ordered something from overseas.
Also I would like to have HDMI as well, which would you choose if HDMI was preferable?
Also, what graphics card sub 300 would you suggest?

honestly I don't see the need to spend 3-400 on a gaming monitor. Is there something I'm missing?
I bought this LG recently and love it... it's more than large enough, great color, fast response time, and no noticeable input lag.
Sometimes I even find 22 inches is too big. I'd have loved a 19-20 inch 1080p (or better yet a 19-20 inch 2560 X 1440) but they don't seem to exist.

They do not. 27" is the smallest.

Why is HDMI preferable? I'm only asking because you will essentially be spending $30-$50 more. If that's what you want, though, then that first one you linked would be fine. It's not a "perfect pixel" which means there is the possibility of having 1-5 dead pixels, but from what I've read that's rare.
The Catleaps are said to have wobbly stands and the Crossovers apparently have very good stands. The Qnix I have has a good stand. It's the only brand I've seen in person.
As far as the import taxes, nothing to worry about. When you buy from bigclothcraft, he sends you a message with the following questions:
These were my responses
I paid for it on a Thursday, and I received it Tuesday the next week. 5 calendar days (two of them being weekend days) to test and ship from Korea. It came to my door straight from DHL. No taxes or anything. I don't remember if I had to sign for it or not because I was home.
As for a good graphics card, tell me the rest of your system specs. CPU, motherboard, RAM, and Power supply (specific model would be very helpful). It would be ignorant of me to suggest a card without that information.

HDMI was a preference just because of being able to hook up other things to the monitor if I wanted to (console etc.)
Currently I have a Phenom II x4 black edition along with 8gig of ddr3 and a Gigabyte mobo. I know these are all things that should be upgraded, but looking for the right time to pull the trigger.
