Is CFB becomming more and more top heavy?

Seems like this same exact class several years ago would have been number 1 easily. But, there are 5 other classes ranked ahead of ours this year.
Please understand this is not a thread to bitch about our class, this was a great haul.
It just feels like more and more highly skilled recruits are slowly choosing fewer and fewer different schools, which will eventually lead to less parity.
Comments? Insults?

Complete opposite, IMO.
Its too early in the morning to think of the word, but its to the point where anyone can beat anyone on any given day.

If you think they are top heavy now, you should wait for next years recruiting rules to kick in. The programs with money are about to dominate the recruiting with almost zero restrictions. WTF the NCAA was thinking with the new rules is mind boggling. You're about to see programs with staffs strictly for recruiting. NCAA just took three steps back.

As long as LSU is in the top heavy group, I really don't give a shite about parity across all of college football.

I agree it is very top heavy imo.
Bama
LSU
Oregon
Stanford
OSU
A&M
UF
UGA
USC - but fading fast
Texass - need to get rid of Alamo Mack
Everyone Else imo
sure a few upsets happen here and there. but by and large, the champ is coming out of a group like that in recent years.

Here's some of the proposals with a link to the article.
quote:
"We want to focus on those things that actually make a difference in our institutions and not necessarily those things that deal with communication devices or whether or not a bagel has peanut butter on it," Emmert said at the time. A Rules
Working Group comprised of college presidents took on the task of revising the rulebook, ultimately forwarding 26 proposals to the Board of Directors last weekend. The board approved 25 of them, including five that focus specifically on recruiting:
• Proposal 11-2, which allows for football programs to hire a recruiting coordinator and support staff separate from the coaching staff, any of whom can partake in all recruiting activities save for off-campus visits.
• Proposal 11-4, which eliminates restrictions on how many coaches can recruit off campus at a given time.
• Proposal 13-3, which "eliminate[s] restrictions on methods and modes of communication during recruiting," meaning no texting barriers, quiet periods or dead periods.
• Proposal 13-4, which eliminates a list of required materials (a banned-drug list, APR data) schools must send to recruits.
• Proposal 13-5A, which eliminates restrictions on sending printed materials (media guides, comic books, etc.) to recruits.

Rules 11-2 and 11-4 are game changers.

Conference-wise, it's unreal. Arkansas finished dead last in the Western division in the team recruiting rankings (according to Rivals) and still finished 31st in the country (out of 123 teams).

CFB is only top-heavy with regards to conferences, i.e. the SEC is at the top, and no other conference even comes close. Within the SEC, however, most teams have a chance of winning any particular game.

The teams with money will be able to umbrella the entire nation instead of picking and choosing their battles.
Small schools are gonna get screwed

Go look at the 60's and 70's. For all the SEC mania, teams like Oregon, Kansas State, Okla State have all played in or been in the hunt for the BCS CG late in the last 2 seasons. USCe has had back to back 11 win seasons. Texas A&M is a top 5 team with a freshman Heisman winner. While yes, 1 team has won 3 of 4 BCS CG and has yet again a #1 ranked class. CFB is now more open than its ever been.

And the kids are going to be inundated like never before. These kids won't get a moment of peace.

Lets see if this actually repeats.. doubtful Shannon can steal as many recruits from south florida if new staff has a piss poor season.

I think actually what we are seeing is what fan bases are the most willing to spend money, generate ratings and revenue and follow the sport. These recruiting rankings and websites play to their customers, which is a very smart business move but that's what happens.
On the field, the athletes are very equal almost anywhere you go. The only parity comes from the coaches, and that is a reflection of the fan base as well in terms of money.

Wow, great post you bring a lot to the conversation. Interesting that the majority of schools have kids that run fast, can bench press, run catch and pass, yet they develop at different rates from the quality of the coaching the receive. That's just my opinion.
