Not sure if I get the meaning of trendy here. Johnny's has been a great spot for years. Also some of other places. I mean if he wants a place that only locals know about than ask for a local hangout, but I wouldn't call Johnny's or Galatoire's trendy.

It's a strange request, and Friday is one of the tricker days to try to eat lunch in the quarter, trendily or otherwise, as the Krewe of Hermes and lot of the Bacchus Float parties pretty much take over most of the places that would fall under this guy's definition of "trendy." And Galatoires is swamped beyond belief with other people (and is, I believe, the only day of the year you can reserve downstairs, via auction).
Other than "not trendy," it's not clear what other criteria he's looking for, and he's rightly getting suggestions all over the map - from poboy places to sit down establishments.
Need a clearer request here, to answer.
If you want hipster "not trendy," keep heading downriver to the bywater. I like Maurepas, but I would classify it as trendy.
