is it wrong that I somewhat want the new Shreveport brewery to be completely awesome, like Russian River awesome, and then the Shreveport people can talk about how awesome the beers are and all the south LA people just have to sit there and cry because they cannot get the beer...
That would be fine with me. I'm in the middle of the state, so I'm the same distance from NOLA and Shreveport. I have friends in Shreveport though, so they could get me some good stuff if this new brewery is awesome
Have you ever been to Red River Brewing Company? Looks like a brewery that also serves food? Looks legit.

I can't think of another English Barleywine that I'd rather drink.
i prefer real ale sissyphus because it's a little more dry
now i really prefer laginutas gnarleywine, but it is most definitely a different style
Sissyphus is an American Barleywine. I'd pick an Old Guardian all day over every barleywine I've ever had but it's an American...
English is different. He made a great English Barleywine. Not my favorite style in that category but what he did was good. Very good.

It's pretty good. They have most of the stuff from the pub and a few things Hocus Pocus doesn't have (or that I've noticed there), wasatch and some european stuff, mainly. Hocus is my go to as well, though. Waiting on them to get Hopitoulas cans.

Well frick Me... I've been thinking it was an English Barleywine this whole time...?

I think the flavor profile is more along the lines of an English barleywine... but it probably uses American malts and hops.
Also, just got an e-mail from CJ that Canebrake was there.

Saw something that said it uses belgian malts???
I'm lost.

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION At over 10% ABV, you should prepare yourself before taking a sip. this ’aint no ordinary beer. An american barleywine in style, but unique with belgian malts it wants to be a trappiste brew. It should be enjoyed at near 55F to release the full complexity of aroma and flavor. Drink in a small glass, and enjoy slowly as you would a fine bourbon or brandy. Grand Reserve can also be cellared for year over year tasting.
Mutt beer.

from what I understand it should be there today
It really sounds like they are stepping up their game. I bought some Stone vert epic 12.12.12 there on Mon which I hadn't seen before.

Beer Advocate is ALL over the place on barleywines... I'm not really sure how the separate American and English Barleywines.
Firestone Walker Sucaba is the only American made barleywine that I know of that is made using English hops, yeast, and malt.

Been a few months since I've had it, but I don't remember it having the hop characteristics typical of most American Barleywines. Way more malt heavy, and the Belgian malt isn't going to affect he flavor as much as the hop schedule and yeast.

I was just guessing as to why they classified it as American but it profiles more English. It makes sense though, and definitely seems to be a bit of a mutt barleywine.

I was the first to review the beer and am positive I entered English Barleywine. Someone higher up must have disagreed.

Yes sir, I was in there mon and the young manager said today was the day the new distributor was bringing alot of new stuff including Hopitoulas. Something else he said was that he wouldn't be getting Endeavor for a while, something about they weren't making anymore this year???
