I'd rather restoration and the LA 31 pale ale over canebreak.
You like what you like, but I think those 2 are not good beers.

Canebrake isn't a great beer but it is a clean drinking beer and it pays the bills. Every brewery has a flagship beer which is typically in an inferior style to help appeal to a greater audience. I just happen to prefer this flagship over most others that we get in town.

What makes canebreak a "good beer" and the other ones "bottom of the barrel?" Is it canebreaks Fruitiness?

I wouldn't call it a fruitiness... It's a bit more flavorful and estery? from the ale yeast and the wheat adds a certain set of flavors plus whatever you get from Steens.

Idk i havent had restoration or biere pale in awhile but dont remember having anything great to say about either.
Eta: I didn't call anything bottom of the barrel today.

I love the argument that its to high at 9.99 but everyone seems fine paying 8.99 for other beer.
If you like the beer buy it, if not great, buy something else, but please get off the soap box about it being "overpriced" by a dollar.
This.
I never understand the mentality that paying $2 more a 6-pack or $1 more a beer could turn someone off that beer.
If you go out to a restaurant, do you immediately look for the cheapest thing on the menu and go with that? Do you say to yourself, "sure i'm hungry, and i took the time to come to this restaurant to eat, but i'm not paying over $20 for my meal, so i'll just take the burger or the salad."
People are more than willing to pay more to eat at a nice restaurant, especially if it's local. But ask them to pay more for a nicer local beer, and they get pissy.

Calandros did not have last night but they did tell me when they are getting Canebrake in. I'm not telling

No, but if I go into a restaurant and their plain cheese burger is $20. I may do a double take and order something else.
I don't think $10 is a lot for a six pack if you want six beers. It's the equivalent of a $3.75 bomber/750 and we know people would lose their minds if they could get a bomber of canebrake that cheap.

Oh, and i know this is a canebrake thread but....
I went to Sammy's saturday and got some crawfish. Decided to get a glass of Tin Roof Pale Ale. I said it before, and i'm more convinced now. It's a pretty good beer. I think they've been tinkering with the recipe some, because it does not resemble the crap they released. I'm having a crawfish boil in a couple weeks and i may pick up a sixer of this to drink with my crawfish.
I just hope they "tinker" with their other recipes and make their beer better. I'd love to be able to talk about Tin Roof, the way we do Parish or NOLA. But i know that's probably a few years away.

Exactly. It isn't like Canebrake is some revolutionary beer that deserves a price hike on quality alone. It is hiked up because supply is low. That is fine, but I won't be running all over town to find it.

Interesting... I was there saturday as well and got Alpine spring and Mardi Gras bock and SOS... lol basically everything BUT and Tin Roof.
Might check it out next time.

Well i'm not arguing that it is the be all end all of beer. I enjoy canebrake. I think it is a fine beer, and when it first came out, i couldn't wait to get my hands on it. Now that it is more readily available, i do not actively seek out canebrake. I will probably pick up a 6 pack, if i make room in my fridge for more beer, but i'm not driving all over town for some. It is a solid very good beer, but i have many other available favorites that i will go for before canebrake, mainly due to style. It's spring and i'm in my hops mode now.
But that being said, i find it rather ridiculous that in the 5 pages of this thread, cost of a 6-pack has occupied 90% of the posts. It's a great beer and $10 for a 6 pack does not seem unreasonable for me, especially due to demand.
Now maybe for people like myself, and you and other craft enthusiasts, we are happy that it's in bottles now in BR, but we aren't as giddy as some of the beginner craft beer drinkers and some of the local beer drinkers. The style is not all that exciting, but they made a very good wheat beer with that style. But i'll gladly buy a 6pack if A) i have room in the fridge and B) i see it in the store to support a great local craft brewery, and if it means more availability of their upcoming brews. Especially that Farmhouse IPA and Envie

Do so. I try to stay open minded, and was expecting the worst, but it tasted mighty fine saturday. I think it coming from a tap, gives it a cleaner taste. I'll pick up some for the parade this weekend and see if it holds up, canned as well.
Oh and i tried Abita Mardi Gras bock. That stuff is too sweet for me.
But like i said before. I'm geared up for hops right now.

Had it a few months back for the first time in probably a year. If I hadn't ordered the beer myself I wouldn't have known it was Voodoo Bengal. It was a really nice pale ale.
Hopefully now that they have a decent recipe they will quit screwing with it and work on consistency.

Anybody have a supply update on this? I'm on the verge of being able to carry it in my restaurant. My distributor was told they wouldn't get it because of the supply issues. Then they screwed up and almost didn't have Michelob Ultra for the Super Bowl and they knew I was pissed. All of a sudden they had a line on some Canebrake for me. Just wondering if I'm getting BS'd on this one.

Do you need it in bottles or keg? If keg, I'm sure you could get it easily. If bottles, then it will be a lot harder.
