Why do you people think the spread is a bad thing and the read option is the only spread offense?
There are different variations of the spread offense. Bama has run some spread each of the last few years and they have 3 NC's to show for it.
Also, you people do realize that we only have non-mobile Mett for 1 more year right? Our OC needs to have a well balanced offense as well as be able to work with the talent we have.
The landscape of football is changing and we better get with it. If it's good enough for the NFL, then it's good enough for CFB.
I know it may not last forever in either league, but why not ride the wave a little bit. I don't want to run a full spread offense, but it would be nice to be able to change our gameplan to get a leg up on the opponent.
Facts are useless against this bunch. You mention Spread and people start thinking June Jones in Hawaii or Boise State/Nevada on ESPN's Thursday Night Football.
Spread has won national championships in the SEC. Spread has won national championships in the Big XII. Spread has won ACC & PAC-12 Championships. The latter conference's champion played for a national championship running Spread.
...and yet some of those teams were mainly running, some of those teams were mainly passing, and some of those teams ran a very well balanced, blended offense.
Oh, and before I hear anymore drivel like some others, Miles envisioned JJ9 running a very Oklahoma-like blended Spread offense. As far back as 2007, we experimented heavily. In 2009, we tried to. But JJ9's career-long "Failure To Launch" life imitating art routine completely jacked that up.
But make no mistake, we DEFINITELY wanted to run Spread concepts. We hired an OL & a WR Coach from that background.
But you can't fix stupid here. Tard's gonna Tard.

Running some spread, does not equal running a spread offense. Nobody would call bama's offense a spread offense.
