The Inbound play to JOB

Was JOB's cut to the basket by CJJ's design or just a random brain fart on behalf of Missouri?

Screen read. Defense bit all in on deny andvwhen switched job read the break

I was in the PMAC, so only saw it live. Looked to me like Missouri just had a total breakdown. JOB certainly did not look like he was expecting to be open, and Carmouche didn't look like it either on the pass. That said, I wish they would have tried that set again on subsequent inbounds plays.

Looked like by design, both guards broke to the baseline and he faked the pick.

Forward Johnny O'Bryant III
On his dunk late in the game to break the Missouri press...
"I communicated with Coach [Johnny] Jones - he told me to go long. I saw that the [defender] wasn't ready for it so I just took off. Charles [Carmouche] made a good pass, and I just finished the play."

The guy behind me noticed that before the timeout Mizzou had no players back there . He kept yelling throw it deep.
Coach Jones must have seen the same thing.

Bad link, but thanks in advance

Missouri knew we wanted to go to Stringer, and I think we played off the double team perfectly. Definitely an option read. Great job going to the hole and not trying to run more clock. The easy layup was more important.

LSU's decision making was superb tonight. Outside of a bobbled ball that led to a Mizzou layup by Hammik and a bad 3 by Malik Morgan this team played very fundamentally sound. It seems as if Jones has raised the teams Basketball IQ through the roof. If JOB III ever develops ball handling skills he could be a very dangerous man on the basketball court

imho that was a great play that you can attribute to coaching. Probably right then but if not by direct design then at least by good coaching in practice.

I hear you. He has been nails the last few games. He can be such a beast out there.

I agree. Not the long pass, but when he threw it in to JOB on the other player I thought we were in trouble. But JOB was clutch as a mother.

He had some major brainfarts at the end of the game, outside of the long pass to JOB III which was just Missouri playing the percentages thinking for sure we were trying to get it to Stringer and no way we throw it to a 50% FT shooter...well,
But Carmouche definitely needs to see film of what he did wrong at the end of the game. The TO he used when he could have hit Stringer easily on the in bounds on 1 play was a complete waste and then the inbounds to O'Bryant III where he was obviously going to get fouled. Then the in bounds to Coleman which wasn't terrible but not the guy you want to get it to. It ended up working out in the end, but those mistakes could have easily cost us.
Can someone explain to my why Carmouche, one of the better free throw shooters in bounds and not Coleman? I understand you want at least a little lengthy guy inbounding so Hickey is out even though we dont want to get it to him...O'Bryant III is just way too cumbersome to be trusted to in bounds. Seems like Coleman is the obvious choice to in bounds between him and Carmouche considering Carmouche is the better FT shooter of the 2.

Carmouche is a 6th year senior and very smart with his passes and very good awareness for inbound passing. Maybe hickey could've done it but carmouche has had 6 years and won't rush anything. I believe hickey might have thrown a bad pass to JOB when they didn't have any timeouts left. (Not the break away score) I was nervous but I think carmouche is the ideal inbound passer. But

It was a layup with a foul wasn't it?

Yeah, it has really come full circle the last couple of games. From consistently bad shot selection and other assorted terrible decisions early in our SEC schedule it's really been a pleasant metamorphosis.
The fact that Stringer didn't take one bad shot is certainly a first. Fewer turnovers by JOB3. Just all-around.
That's what it will take for this team to play to their capability and beyond. And we see the result.
That's why I was so pissed at the early SEC play. I thought we could play like this, but we were pissing away games we should have been winning with unsound play.
Well, we just got one of those back. Still need another one. How bout Bama down the line?
