It's a marginal and unnecessary upgrade at point guard that leaves a gigantic crater at C.
Kyle Lowry is better than Vasquez.
You'd also have plenty of cap room to spend on a free agent center in the off-season.
you're not signing a guy to play 30+ minutes a night at center. Plenty of guys available to do what Lopez does.

Not sure how up to date this LINK is. I would only consider Josh Harrellson or Jerome Jordan. But, Lowry is not that big enough upgrade over Vasquez to lose our starting center.
What the frick did I just read? You want Jerome Jordan?

I agree. But has Lowry ever gotten along with a head coach?

yep. the crunch time frontcourt for this team will be anderson/davis regardless of the starters. the majority of frontcourt minutes will go to that same pair, regardless of
starters.

This is obviously the big question mark. How would he fit in with this team.

Josh Harrellson would instantly become a fan favorite
Would also show AD they're willing to build, by bringing in a fellow Wildcat

My thoughts with regards to Bledsoe has more to do with what he may become, than what he is. I think Bledoe's ceiling is through the roof and salivate at what could be.

Nah brah. Jordan is D League talent and everyone else is fricking old. I like Lopez.
I was using your "Plenty of guys available to do what Lopez does" statement to show that ain't no one close to being available to do what Lopez does.
Losing Lopez isn't worth gaining Lowry.

Zaza Pachulia, Samuel Dalembert, Timofey Mozgov, Thiago Splitter?
I didn't know we had Lew Alcindor in the pivot now.
These guys couldn't do what Robin freaking Lopez does?

Not to mention Lopez is younger than all 3.
Splitter is the only one who is better, but the Spurs more than likely won't be letting him go unless we overpay. Lopez has a very nice contract.
And again, why are you willing to make a giant crater at center when we have a point guard who is currently 3rd in assists per game to get a marginal upgrade, if that, in Lowry?

Because its not a marginal upgrade.
Giant crater? So the front office can't sign anyone in the offseason to play 20 minutes a game?

Lopez really is easily replaced. While he is efficient at the line and in the paint, he's a 7' center who is the 75th best rebounder in the NBA. He has 2 double doubles on the year. Monty has decreased his mpg by 3 minutes each month on the season (28mpg in Nov to 22 this month). The guy is destined to be a career backup. And he is good at it. But he won't leave a crater at center if he were to be traded. He is very expendable.

I do expect us to eventually replace him with a better starter, but I don't feel like Lowry is worth trading him and Vasquez for. We don't really need a score-first point guard to play alongside Gordon, Davis, and Anderson. I'd rather stick with what we have now and build through free agency and the draft unless a trade comes along that definitely makes us better.

What is it about Lowry that makes him so special? His FG% is worse than Vasquez's and he averages almost the same amount of points and over 3 assists less.

His FG% is worse than Vasquez's
He takes an extra 3 per game (which he's better at than Vasquez), so that drops it a bit. Lowry is a better FT shooter and gets to the line a good bit more often, which isn't reflected in basic FG%. Among PGs that play more than 20mpg, Lowry has the 7th best TS% (accounts for 3's and FTs) in the NBA vs. 41st for Vasquez.

In 7 fewer minutes
Per 36:
Vasquez: 14.5 / 4.7 / 9.6 3.6 TOs, .7 steals
Lowry: 17.7 / 5.8 / 7.6 2.7TOs, 1.7 steals
Lowry is also a good defender. Vasquez not so much. The rebound numbers for Lowry (6'0) being better than Vasquez (6'6) is especially telling. The only thing is Vasquez has at least 2 years of being here on the cheap. Lowry only has one year left at a very reasonable $6m, but could jet or get a ~$3-6m raise afterwards.

Yes, if looking for a PG Bledsoe would be second on my list
This dude has quickly elevated to the most overrated player in the NBA. It's a small sample size but in 4 starts with Paul out he's averaging 12/4 and the Clippers are 1-3.

Lowry is a better on-the-ball defender. A better three-point shooter. A better attacker of the basket. And a better rebounder than Vasquez.
Vasquez is no doubt a better distributor. However, Lowry is better at protecting the basketball than Vasquez - 10.7 turnover rate to Vasquez's 12.9.
The Hornets average 14.5 free throw attempts per game. Third worst in the NBA.
Vasquez averages 2.9 FTA-48 min.; Lowry averages 8.0 FTA-48 min.
Lowry's true shooting percentage is 57.8%; Vasquez's is 50.2%

Fair enough. I didn't dive into the stats but I watched him play before and he seemed like an inefficient chucker at PG. I still don't think we should mess with our roster and trade for him when he isn't a piece that will make us contenders.

no one realistic transaction is going to take the Hornets/Pelicans from where they are now to contender status.
It involves multiple moves.
