I had the normal one before I sold it. I didn't want the LED, so the Black edition was what I went with
Jcole, yea the case is big, it's a full tower. I like it A LOT more than my old phantom (I think it looks a helluva lot better than it too)

you had the standard phantom or the full tower version?
Posted on 1/28/13 at 9:26 pm to bluebarracuda
I'm jelly I didn't think about a white tower before I built mine in December.
Posted on 1/28/13 at 9:29 pm to jcole4lsu
Full tower. It was close to the same size as this one

You are way above my paygrade, nice build.

Clean looking build, I am jealous.

no that's just blue. He has spent more time building and rebuilding than actually playing games.
Nice work though Blue. It's pretty apparent that you need a full tower case to do any serious watercooling. Some mid towers are compatible with the thin rads, but anything 60-80mm thick pretty much requires full tower, which is why I am not gonna water cool yet. I will leave my current build as is for a couple years until I am ready to change socket, mobo, and case and probably WC then.
Do you have gentle typhoons in the front and back or just on the rad? walk us through the WC parts you used and give us a ballpark figure on how much you spent on the WC alone.

I just use the money I get from old builds and use it for new builds. I'm a broke college student
Puff, I just have the GT on top the radiator in pull config. I'll give some more info after I finish up day z

you and i have very different definitions of "broke college student". when i was at lsu, all my money went to beer.
and coke. but mostly beer.

Most of my money goes to rent and guess. I usually put aside a little bit a month for extra shite. Hopefully by the end of summer I'll have another 240 rad and a second 7970

I'll inform NASA that they've been robbed.

Okay, watercooling nerd here needs more details on the setup.
And that looks like primo chill tubing. I hope it isn't -- or it should be okay depending on your biocide choice. I think the plasticizer leaching was a reaction with PTnuke, but the company won't disclose what the problem is.
I have the same block on my 7970 It's actually the first time I've used a full-cover block on a video card. I've been a blind believer in swiftech's universal blocks, but mosfet cooling can be problematic on some cards.

Its xspc tubing with distilled water. I'm using silver kill coil
Alright so all about this WC loop. I spent roughly $400ish give or take on the whole thing. I got a deal for the 7970 that came with the block, and I got a deal on the pump. Everything else was bought brand new off of frozencpu. I would have finished the build in a few hours, but I had to go through and buy like 6 different sets of screws before I found the right ones.
I went with the Gentle Typhoon fans on top of the radiator in pull because I took up a lot less space in the case (the 810 has a very nifty top slot for fans for a rad, watch linustechtips review on it). The 810 is a great water cooling case, because it can fit a 360, a 240 and two single 120s at the same time. I went with the Black Ice SR1 rad because it is optimized for low RPM/quiet fans, which is what I was looking to do with this build (make it quieter).
I just finished playing DayZ and my temps never went above 40C, and they don't go above 42C in 3DMark overclocked at 1125/1575. I have yet to OC the processor yet, but don't worry that's soon to come.
I really only spent $300 on this build, mostly because of the water cooling. I was able to sell my last build for a very nice amount, so it made funding this build a heck of a lot easier

How heavily are you guys overclocking ?
I have my i5 3570k running at 4.3 with nothing but air cooling and I have never seen a temp above 38 C
