Part of the reason people think Loomis is so good.
Here's an exercise: list the players drafted on defense under Loomis. How many have been worth a damn?

And with a shitty defense almost every year since he took over in 2002?
Even if we dismiss his bad pre-Payton years and concede that Payton has picked all of his players and Loomis is just a bean counter, why the F are we in cap hell?
Why did we spend $30 million dollars more than any team in the NFL this year to go 7-9 and trot out the worst defense in the history of the league?
