How critical is this for cooking eggs?
Probably the lone exception. Low and slow works best for eggs. If they start sizzling and bubbling when you drop them in, it's too hot.

OK, that's what I thought.

I plain don't enjoy baking. It's not my thing.
Yep. Occasionally I feel guilty that my son's birthday and childhood memories are not filled with homemade cakes and cookies. His favorite cookies are made at Kellers and Twins.

it's a sin how terrible some people are at cooking bacon
I'm not picky about much, but bacon is #1 on the list, and I agree completely with the statement and the pictures.

#10 is my kryptonite when I'm going for stew or a vegetable beef soup. At least those two dishes are more forgiving of not getting the nice brown crust that I try for. I look at all the meat I have to brown and convince myself that I can do it in two batches instead of three.
I'm wrong. Every. Single. Time. And my pot looks exactly like the one in that picture.

It doesn't matter in our house. I cook 3 strips of bacon every morning at 6 a.m. and leave it on the counter top and then go off to the gym. When Lucy gets home at 7 a.m. she eats the crispiest piece. She gives the other two to our dogs. But only after telling them that 'mommie cooked this for you.' She lies to the dogs all the time.

Mistakes Louisiana Style:
Burning your roux
Purging crawfish with salt
Overcooking your crawfish
Tomato product in your jambalaya
Tomatoes in gumbo
Canned cream of _____ soup as an ingredient.
What else?

The ones I make the most are over-softening butter, cookies gain unwanted width, blueberries take a dive, and turn food/meat too often.
