Why do so many want Hicks as NT?

Why do so many people want an explosive player like Hicks as NT where he will constantly be double teamed and hard for him to make plays. He will be better at DE as a 4 technique and be used like a Haloti Ngata for the Ravens where he can be more disruptive?
A 3-4 NT is a straight-up 0-tech type of guy - sit over the center and take up space. It's the NT's job to force double-teams, making his job less gap pursuit (beating blocks) and more gap control (acting like a blob).. It sounds simple, but the NT also needs to be good enough with his technique to continue to force double-teams regardless of the play. If the NT is doing his job, that should free up the linebackers to either pursue through a potentially open gap (left open as a result of the NT absorbing a bunch of beef) or through pursuit of other gaps (since they don't have to worry about the gaps the NT is occupying).

I want him in the DE rotation.

It's not that I want him there it's just that we don't have many other options after Bunkley

Hicks is a better 3-4 DE than a NT. That role should actually fit him well.

I agree with this. Who else will rotate with bunkley?

Draft a NT builds depth and you can go and sign another NT that can provide more depth. . All you really need is around 3 NT's on a 3-4 defense team

Hicks has the size and athletic ability to be a player similar to Richard Seymour..who was a fantastic 3-4 end in New England, when he was healthy.

Isn't Hicks at 325? I know size isn't just a determinant but its not like he would be undersized for the position. I'm of the opinion that I do not want our first pick to be anything but pass rusher. Now if we could get say Jesse Williams by trading back up into the second, I'd do that in a heartbeat.
Having a Williams would allow Hicks to be a DE in this scheme.
But like others said, we don't have anyone on the current roster you could spell Bunkley with at that NT spot besides Hicks

I'm thinking the same thing... put him at DE, then we have him and Jordan on either side.
then we can ditch Smith with no real issue between Jordan, Hicks, and Gallete.. at least two of them are good enough to start in a 3-4

No way Gallete would be a DE in a 3-4.

You would think Hicks would play DE.
The question I have is who will play at NT on passing downs? Bunkley has always been primarily a run stuffer.
Maybe we see Hicks slide down to the middle on obvious passing downs

Could see Hicks some at DE possibly but NT seems a stretch for him right now.
Whole dang team is in flux

He'd be an OLB in a 3-4. I think he'd fit in well there.
It would have to be Jordan and Hicks at DE. Bunkley at NT. Wilson & Gallette at OLB. Will Smith on another team.
