So a public school program that benefits kids will be capped by educators because of athletic considerations? But I thought public schools had no control over their enrollments? Anyone that wants to be in a LPS school of choice has a right to be there if they meet the criteria. How do they cap a successful academic program in Lafayette Parish schools? Who decides who does or doesn't get it? If they are 24% they are good? If they are 25% they have to get out and play in the "separate but equal" select admission playoffs? When has "separate but equal" ever survived a judicial review in modern times? That is part of the whole majority to minority mess, to eliminate separate but equal from the Public School system and spread out the demographics in the system.

I appreciate your argument. I can see both sides. I went to public school and I coached in privates. I saw first hand how publics schools in Lafayette work in the offseason (some good and some bad) and and I saw first hand how hard both sides work. I saw kids that started at public schools left and thrived (academically, socially, athletically) at privates and some kids with huge potential left privates and disappeared off the face of the Earth at public schools. I have seen kids that couldn't adjust to a private school go to a public and thrive. I have seen both sides and I feel where you are coming from.

However, I dont think you have any idea how complicated this issue really is. The fact that they dont have a clear definition of who is select and who is not, how the measure is supposed to actually work, and if it is really good for the kids is troubling. It is not about who wins or doesn't win state championships. That is not the reason schools offer sports. Winning is a team goal, not a reason for existence. Sadly there are schools that sell out for winning at seemingly all costs. They should be dealt with accordingly.

The fact that high ranking members of the LHSAA hierarchy dont believe this will stand judicial review means they know the whole thing was just a big grandstanding effort to get the LHSAA to do the job they are paid to do. The Carver principal outlined his lawsuit in his speech on the floor.

I quoted a State Senator from Lafayette that point blank said his office is about to get involved. Page Cortez is a former Lafayette High player, a former Lafayette High coach, a former STM coach and a former STM parent. He is also someone that will be a Gubernatorial candidate in the next few years. He is a serious man, in a powerful position and he is going to join a Legislative effort that politicians across the state will be happy to get involved in because they have been waiting for an opportunity to get into the affairs of the LHSAA for a long time.

This whole thing has opened up Pandora's box for Kenny Henderson and he will be powerless to stop it. When the courts and the politicians get involved there is no way the membership will decide how this plays out. The reason private supporters like me are against this is because some of us know we have crossed the point of no return. We have lost the initiative to maintain the autonomy of the LHSAA to manage its own affairs. That is the reason for the call for the public vote, now everyone that was there is on the record for how they really feel. There is no hiding now, and for some principals their hypocrisy will be their downfall.

Here is my prediction, the lawsuits will start flying this spring. The Legislature will have two separate committees (one senate and one from the house) start digging into the LHSAA. The proposal to split the playoffs will be thrown out by the courts and a new measure will be floated at the summer meetings. However this time everyone will know where everyone stands and the venom and vindictiveness will be off the charts from BOTH sides.

Any hope that we may have had of this being resolved in house will be out the window. The LHSAA as we know it, love it or hate it, will cease to exist.

When the courts and the politicians get involved, nobody wins.

There is no probably. They got their cake and are eating it too. Milk the private schools' money and then send them to duke it out while all the public schools make the playoffs. Everyone gets a trophy and they still have our money to pay for them.
