In the aftermath of the announcement from Saints coach Sean Payton that the team would be shifting from a 4-3 defense to a 3-4 front, it was reported that former Browns and Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel was on the short list to replace Steve Spagnuolo.
It appeared on the surface to be a great idea. Crennel and Payton have common ties tracing to Bill Parcells, and Crennel isn’t the kind of guy about whom Payton would have to worry running a bounty system or otherwise doing anything that comes close to breaking the rules.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, however, Crennel isn’t among the finalists for the job. In fact, we’re told that Crennel was never even contacted.

nothing new blueslover. i stated this yesterday. crennel is probably burned out after the DC and HC gigs especially at his age now. I could not see SP going after him. looks like i was spot on. now the next question is who do we get? ryan? ravens assistant? could a 49ers assistant not leave jimmy
