I agree with that, but to saying driving the ball accurately is the most useless stat is not really correct. If it didn't matter and all that matter was hitting the ball as far as you can why would pros ever hit anything other than driver off the tee?

driving accuracy is important if you need to rely on it. if david toms missed more than half his fairways, he would have no chance of winning. tiger and bubba can hit 35% of the fairways and win.
do you not remember the 2008 us open? tiger was all over the place. but his recovering ability and short game were masterful.

Because of the design of a hole and hazards. If there are no hazards where the landing area is, they'll hit driver 100% of the time, and not care whatsoever whether its in the rough.
