So I've been living in baton rouge fishing shell beach, grand isle, and mostly leeville for the past couple years. I've very recently(a week or so) moved to lake Charles and need some help as to where most kayakers lauch and fish the marsh south of here. I'm not asking for your honey hole, but any help would be appreciated.

Just moved here myself.

I have only done it once, but if you follow hwy 27 south passed hackberry going towards holly beach, you will see several places on the side of the road you could park and launch.

DON'T SPEED! Hwy 27 is the only major road out there and there is almost always a cop waiting to bust somebody on the straight always!

A lot of kayakers fish around the 210 bridge. I've also seen them in moss lake and west cove

You might consider joining the Lafayette Kayak Fishing Club, as they fish over there all the time. There are tons of public launches, and a few private ones. My favorites are West Cove, Hog Island Gully, Joes, Spicers, Choupique Bayou, Fred's. The club knows someone who allows them to launch in a neighborhood to get into Turners Bay. You can also launch under the 210 bridge.

Most of Big Lake is open water, but there is marsh access at west cove, hog island, Choupique and Spicers.

THIS! Got my first speeding ticket on HWY 27 when I was in college. I grew up on that road and learned (after the ticket) where all the LSP would hide at.

As far as parking along side the road south of Hackberry...you're talking about parking on the road in the Sabine Refuge? Is that legal if you're not by the vehicle? I know the crabbers do it..but they are right beside the car. We used to do it walking into the marsh for duck hunting but had to be out by 12. Didn't know if the rules had changed.

You can't park on the side of the road. Only in the parking lots in the refuge, like west cove launch, hog island gully, blue crab. I parked roadside on the east side of the lake, and launched into some marsh. It was ridiculously shallow, and when I got back to the truck the sheriff was waiting on me. It started ugly, but ended nicely when I apologized to the landowner.

That's what I thought, but since I've been relegated to living in Hell, (aka Alabama) I haven't been to that area in 10 years and I didn't know if the laws had changed. So instead of being a dick...I just asked...deferring to more informed sources.

Don't know where blue crab is...I know where the west cove and hog island gully ones are...Isn't the West Cove the one we used to check in at? Aka..."Steel Shot shack"?

I think it is the northernmost launch, and the only one on the right side of the road. pretty much everywhere that you see crabbers, you can stop and launch. the best marsh fishing is in the cuts to the south off the west cove canal. Usually i launch there and paddle along the south shoreline to the old settlement canal, then fish the marsh there, but it's a pretty long paddle. I once did a 13 mile trip(per my GPS) in a tournament, going from WC to Old Settlement, across to Rabbit Island and cross reef, then back. long day in a kayak.

Launchpoints 2.0 app for your iphone will give you tons of launch points along hwy 27 and around Lake Charles. I have yak fished under 210 in and around PPG turnaround before with some success. Its tough if there is too much wind or if the wind kicks up while you are out there. I'm always nervous crossing the ship channel there because so many boats travel through there at high speeds. I plan on trying the West Cove launch next.

I've also fished near Alcoa which was a great spot but its considered a private launch and my friend who lived there moved.
