Excuse me. Im officer ***** with **** department. I see that you are open carrying and I respect the fact that you are exercising your right but the management of the store has requested that you not bring a firearm into the store. Im going to have to ask you to either leave the property or secure your firearm in your vehicle while you shop here.

Absolute correct way to handle the situation. If you are too afraid to approach an otherwise non confrontational individual practicing their legal right to open carry with respect and dignity then you need to not be a cop.

Got a question that came up the other day. If you run a gun serial number and it comes back stolen. Say it was done for a friend, that calls you, and is thinking about purchasing a gun and wants to know if the gun is stolen. Does the office then expect for you to bring the gun into the station?
