Backstory?
Drew pissed some ex-player off when answering some questions from some reporter. there is a thread about it a few spaces down. It wasn't like Drew held his own press conference on the matter or was "attacking" anybody.
It sounds like the guy who took a shot at him is exactly the kind of player Brees is talking about. Its funny you don't see any current players ripping him for what he said. Seems like a few current players would be if he was saying something outrageous but they aren't so what does that tell you?

I agree and I hate his show but I needed some NFL playoff talk.
However it's nice to hear someone say it.

Not sure I agree. How many jobs do we work at for 10 years that will give us lifetime benefits? None.
Why is it that those ex players think when they retire from football, they are exempt from working at another job to support themselves?
It's about choices. They made a choice to play a game, where they knew they would sustain injuries and then willingly lied about those injuries to get back on the field.
They were irresponsible with their finances (and not surprisingly their lives in general), and now they want a handout. Bogus.

Well, tequincally, the military does this.
But, how many jobs have a 10-15 yr max span in a multi billion dollar industry that could easily sponsor a program for insurance for injuries directly resulting from their career. They shouldnt all get checks, but they could easily get help with medical bills without the owners feeling a thing.

I dont think it applies to everyone. The most vocal ones, probably, but their are plenty of ex NLF players who arent looking for handouts. Whether or not they think like this, i think they are entitled to help with their medical bills from injuries resulting from their football career.

You like making large sweeping generalizations dont you?

Tell me the players that are complaining the most aren't guilty of this....

How many jobs are there where you make millions upon millions every year (and sometimes every month). A lot of those players make more money in a year or two than we will make in a lifetime. If they can't plan their future around that, then that's on them.
On top of that, it's not like they can't work. They are retiring at age 30 for Christ sake. With the help of an NFL pension paired with a job, they should be able to live a decent life.
If I don't plan ahead financially and don't have any money when I'm 65, should I be able to sue my employers for some bs excuse because I don't have any money? No, I'd be scolded for not planning ahead and told to work.
You can't honestly tell me you believe a majority of these players aren't just looking for a handout.

Dude the ones who make this much arent really the ones complaining. And most NFL players dont maker millions a year. Most dont even make a million a year. Add in the amount of money you have to pay for an agent, and lawyers, etc.. They dont make millions a year after taxes and expenses.

Lets be serious, normal life and football are not governed by the same rules.

Whether they are or they arent, I think the NFL should put a program in place to help pay for their medical expenses. And thats all. Not a handout, not a check every month, just help with their lifetime medical bills that result from their 10 year career in a miltibillion dollar industry.

Please someone legitimately explain their hatred for cowherd. From what I gather he tells it straight for the most part. Usually on the same side as the SEC and the saints. I've only been listening this past year but I can't seem to find a reason why he is on the level of Hebert hatred I've seen on this forum.

I take it you didn't hear his rant on one of his shows where the ripped the city of New Orleans apart. He basically questioned what makes the city so great to host a Superbowl and other large events. He also talked about how the city is not safe at night with the crime etc. etc.
Posted on 1/16/13 at 9:40 pm to JS87
the city is a party city, thats why its great. there sure are better venues in the US, but most are up north which have cold weathers and people hate it.
warm weather = happy customers = happy fans = more money for nfl
we all remember the random snow in dallas don't we!

Had I heard that I would be pissed as well. But saying that a city, known for its crime, is unsafe for tourists is not out of the question. Being from Louisiana like most of us are we know where to go and not go.
All I'm saying is that I would much rather listen to cowherd actually rant and understand it, than to hear people like Hebert and hokie absolutely embarrass themselves and the state.

That sounds like exactly how he described the reason for SEC dominance and how it's not going away. Warm weather, beautiful women, and things to do in the offseason are what draws athletes or keeps them in the south

They disagreed with him on a few things and/or he didn't praise their favorite team when they felt their team deserved it. I love Cowherd as, like you said, he tells it straight. Rabid sports fans can be whiney little bitches sometimes.

Actually, he shite on New Orleans with a slew of incorrect statements and obnoxious hyperbole. Then questioned why any sporting event would be held here.
Plus, this:

I would imagine most people, even the current players, would agree with this. The problem is that we all know the ex players who are jumping up and down, stamping their feet, and pointing fingers aren't looking for just medical attention. They aren't suing the league, and talking about suing the NFLPA, for a CAT scan. They are suing for $$$MONEY$$$. In that light, I totally agree with Brees 100%. Should the NFL take care of it's ex players in a medical sense? Yes, but it should be their choice to do so, not the result of some lawsuit.

How many people outside of New Orleans actually understand the city correctly? All they see is Bourbon St. and how it smells like piss and vomit. Thanks or proving my point though

For all his trolling, one of the things I get from Cowherd pretty consistently is that he believes in personal responsibility and accountability, so I can see why he is on Drew's side.

I don't understand a lot of things. So I don't spout off about them on a nationally televised show.
