Pitt was doing a comical John Wayne impersonation
John Wayne played John Wayne in all of his movies and that is what Pitt was portraying with his "Bon Jorno" matter of fact style of acting

IMO Pitt was pretty much just supposed to be comic relief in between the tense nazi/shoshana scenes. I thought it was a fun role that gave the movie a lighter/tarantino type feel.

I know what he was trying to do, he just didnt do it all that well imo
again, I think he was miscast
