Why not? I do this purposely. I have friends at several bars and restaurants, and always get shite comped and I always tip accordingly.
Eta: not stealing in my case
At my regular bar, the employees get a 50% discount every time they work so instead of drinking, they'll give us their discount for the night. Almost always a high up manager
As for my friend at a restaurant here in town, he buys it for us. Pays for it himself since he gets a big discount

Yup.
My buddy is the owner of Field of Dreams in Broussard and I've never paid for jack shite over there, but I always tip Josh (the bartender) the total value of what I think everything was worth
