Arrested Development Netflix Series to Lead Into the Movie

Mitch Hurwitz sat down with USA Today recently to talk about the upcoming Arrested Development series on Netflix, and it looks to be a re-imagined structure which will focus on one character per episode and, ideally, lead into a movie.
"The bigger story is the family has fallen apart at the start of our show," Hurwitz told the outlet. "They all went their own way, without Michael holding them together, so they're left to their own devices, and they're not the most successful devices."
The nature of show has moved away from a family ensemble piece, and into what sounds like chapters that will ultimately feel like “one big” Arrested episode.
"Each individual (episode) kind of depicts what happens in 2006 as the Bluths fled from the law on the Queen Mary," and will eventually lead into where they are today. The segments will focus on an individual character's story with Michael (Jason Bateman) the only Bluth to appear in every episode.
George Michael Bluth himself (Michael Cera), is now one of a team of writers who has structured the series as a "first act to what we eventually want to do, which is a big movie," Hurwitz says.
Henry Winkler, Liza Minnelli, Ron Howard and Brian Grazer are all scheduled to make guest appearances.

My exact first thought as well.
It's AD, so I'm sure it'll be great, but I'm not sure I like a whole episode devoted entirely to only one character. Part of what makes AD so great is all the characters' stories going on in each episode.

That one character will still interact with other characters it's just the entire episode will focus around one character.

like i dont want to watch an entire Tobias episode. hes good in the amount of time he gets
im sure i will like it but this kinda worries me.
...... a full buster and full Gob episode could be gold though

you are guys are looking at this wrong.
If they are all released on the same day, you watch them back-to-back it's like one episode anyway.
I like this format, fits with the end of Season 3.

What is this, the Avengers movie with Arrested Development?
Sounds like the same idea. Reintroduce the characters with their own film/episode. Then put them altogether for the big payoff.

I echo most in here...I'm not thrilled about how that sounds, but I am confident that they'll pull it off well. Especially if it all leads to a movie (which I assume would be basically an hour and a half long episode).
Either way, can't wait.

I'm really curious on how Buster has dealt with Lucille likely being in jail. I'd say out of all the members (maybe next to Lucille), he probably adapted the worst out of all the members of the family to a life without Michael and his mother. Anyone have any predictions for what the Bluths are up to now. I'll take a swing:
1) Michael: Successful in some new real estate company, who is still more or less ignoring his son, and is trying to ignore his father and the rest of his family.
2) George Michael: In a bitch internship with a psychopathic boss and has bent up sexual frustrations.
3) Gob: Currently a roadie doing his magic and a puppet show with Franklin. Also continues to use Frank to offer hookers protection on the side.
4) Buster: Continually fired from minimum wage jobs and often takes up work at the Banana Stand.
5) Lindsay: Coke whore on a downward spiral. She is currently mooching off her daughter Maeby for cash.
6) Tobias: Pretty much where we left off, except without Lindsay and has had a huge falling out with Maeby due to him now knowing what she does and refusing to hire him for acting roles that he has repeatably sabotaged.
7) Maeby: Maybe next to Michael, the most successful of the Bluths. On her way up the production latter, but like George Michael has sexual frustration.
8) Lucille: Wrapping up her stint in jail.
9) George Sr.: In numerous get rich quick schemes and has ties to Mexican drug cartels.
Give us your best guesses.

Without even seeing any of these new 10 episodes, how do yall think or want the movie to end? The movie will certainly be the end of the AD story, so I imagine it will have some finality to it.

Agreed. Its not like its going to be just Michael plus the person of the week in every episode. With Tobias, its likely Lindsay and Maeby will be in the episode. With Lucille, Buster and George Sr are likely to be involved. Its really just one long episode with a bunch of subplots.

I'll have to wait and see what this new season has to offer. Have no idea as of right now. Heard a rumor how they try to make a movie about themselves, with Tobias being shunned from the family, but that's all I've heard.
